Moving on up...to a new stand Female
Default Moving on up...to a new stand

Right now, my orchids are on a square table. I have six regular sized ones, and then one mini. It's getting a little difficult to maneuver them around to make sure their stems don't go into each other. And watering is sometimes a problem when moving them. I admit, I broke two stems while trying to move them. I was not happy. But, they loved me enough to keep on growing. I'm in need of an upgrade of some sort for a stand, but not sure what. Can you share what set up you have? I will say after searching the net, I don't care for the ones that have shelves to the floor, and also to protect from our pets. So I need mine up more.

Thanks.

Subscribed! I want to see people's stands too. I'm not too happy with my plant rack. Just an ugly piece of metal with shelves jutting out of the wall, with wheels to boot.

There are shelves from Amazon that you can get in different heights and you can put the shelves where ever you want. You can hang lights on them. You can also use one base in the center and hook other shelves on the sides. I got the ones with wheels so I can move them to sweep or open my sliding glass doors. Here are some pictures of mine.

Nice. Certainly a smaller profile than mine.

I am a kitchen window, countertop grower with a small greenhouse on the counter, terrariums and glass containers. I only have four large orchids, the others are miniatures. Having them in the kitchen is very handy though in the way a bit according to the chef.

I recently repainted an old bakers rack that I've used on my deck or patio for years and years to hold potted plants. The thing was a mess, rusted and filthy. It cleaned up well enough to be allowed into our dining room as another grow space for low light plants. I do have a few plants here that are not exactly shade lovers so I added clamp on lights. I will probably buy some fixtures to mount under the shelves as these clamp lights are pretty ugly. I also have a floor lamp I can adjust for any area needing additional light. It is a Zoo Med avian lamp with an adjustable gooseneck. I'm using CFL's. I've only had this set up for about a month but so far everyone is happy. The Phal on top has not bloomed in two years and I finally have a spike!

I got plexiglass cut to my measurements from Lowes for the shelves. Also I use extra light since I have North windows. I also got a bakers rack cheap off of craigslist. I use that too for plants. I like how they fold up flat and are easy to move.

That looks really nice! And, even better, really tidy!

I'm in the middle of expanding mine. Home made, Adjustable height shelves with fluorescent lights. Works well, sturdy, presentable if not actually attractive (sort of like me).

I'll try to post a photo later on.

I bought the Home Depot version of Wintergirl's Amazon shelves, with 48" x 18" shelves. I can fit 4 standard nursery trays on each shelf.

I am using 4 of the provided 6 shelves, big plants on the bottom, with two Philips Greenpower W/DR LED's attached to the shelf above. That shelf supports more trays of plants, and the shelf above them has a strip I made using 4 of the vivarium lamps I used to carry. In the space between that and the top shelf, I have the timer that controls the lights.

I just added a humidity tent made from heavy, clear vinyl, and that has made the plants very happy.
