They are not in an enclosed room, so the humidity meter isn't working on either the furnace or the stand alone unit...

Cool, I'm really surprised it's working that well. Normally so very little evaporates that any bit of airflow wafts it away. Are you pots terracota? They wick lots of water and increase evaporation. They might have something to do with it.

They aren't terra cotta either, but we are in a warmish period right now, so it may just be that we are getting higher humidity outdoors right now.

Yes. That's it. I just checked the weather. 83% humidity outdoors today. And yesterday, it was apparently something like 90%. So the whole house humidifier probably isn't even running. Winter will be the real test. I may need to bring in another humidifier unit
