I want to see this as well, though I'm sure I could pull it off myself. Get a large piece of cork, cut it to fit a shadowbox, mount the orchid, and frame it without glass.

My attempt is in a coconut husk basket with sphagnum moss and charcoal. I have done layering with the medium instead of mixing it. Sphagnum moss is placed at the bottom and the top layer of the basket to slow down the moisture loss while charcoal is placed in-between wrapping around the roots to provide maximum 'air' and 'dryness'. The basket is situated in the shade with constant breeze and short duration of 'dust' sunshine.

Good luck with yours (and mine)!

One thing to bear in mind if hanging either a pot or a mount on the wall, is whether the damp medium will mark the wall. I tried with a mount once, but it was just such a pain to dry it before hanging it back, and even when I got it pretty dry it ended up with the dampness soaking into the wall and staining it.

If the wall you want to hang the plant on will not have that problem, or you are able to protect it in some way then I think they can look pretty good.

I have a number of mounted orchids that spent the summer hanging from a post on my porch (it's a treated 4 x 4 that receives dapple shade most of the day and is shaded by the roof overhang for the rest and the orchids grew like weeds). Now that they're inside for the winter here's what I plan to do....

I plan to mount a 1 x 4 ceder board vertically to the wall with 1 x 2 spacers behind it for airflow. I'll put a planter on the floor underneath the board so the board overhangs the planter slightly and and runoff from the mounts will drip into the planter and the plants in it. I'll use screw in hooks on the board from which to hang my mounted orchids (and maybe pots as well).... Since this wall is fairly close to a south window and plant shelves with lighting I might not need supplemental light, but if I do it will be easy to hang a plant light from the ceiling....I plan to put it all together this weekend....

I use clear plastic dropcloths under my plants to protect the floor/table.
