Show off your windowsill displays here!

Yay! A windowsill growing forum was finally made. Let's celebrate and kick it off by showcasing our personal setups for all to see. Maybe it'll spark some ideas. I'll start us off with a picture of my own setup.

I moved into this (apartment) bedroom early last year with a single phal recovering from root rot. I got myself a couple more to cheer up my empty bedroom while i was waiting to move all my stuff from my last place and pretty soon I was taking down the blinds and putting up curtains just to put my new orchids on the sill and the collection grew some more after . They seem to be happy with the placement and most of them are in spike now. Looking forward to my first flowers in the next month or so.

In case anyone was wondering, the window faces true north.

Our only south window is next to a covered walkway and facing a courtyard and there are no east windows. The west windows have only really intense afternoon sun and people are always closing the blinds because of the glare when they watch tv , there's also the house heater in the room (no temp drop for spike initiation in the winter) my mom kept her plants on a rack in that window, but, when her few phals didn't spike and she saw my mine all spiking, she got jealous lol and kept whining about it . We finally moved them to the north kitchen windows, where they just started spiking.

I've heard north windows don't usually have enough light for phals, but down here in the Los Angeles area, north windows get really bright indirect light from sun up to sun down. Bright enough to read a book at 10ft from the window. The biggest problem we have is actually the consecutive heat waves and low relative humidity during the summer (high 90s to low 100s), last summer was one of the worst in a long time and the older leaves got a little limper, but the orchids survived (and grew 2-3 new leaves each). So, hopefully this summer won't be too much of a problem.

It´s winter and my orchid window is some what crowded. As we do not have much sunlight up north in the winter I use a 150 W Metal-halide lamp togeter with 4 35W Osram Decostar spots.

I love the decorative orchid pots! I am hoping to find some so I can spruce up my window displays a bit

I saw some similar on re pot me, or something like that. But they were sooooo expensive! The ones there were like $30 locally I can get the same thing for about $6. Retail. I get mine at a greenhouse/garden center/grocery store. It's this great little store (well they have three or four of them now) that has super cheap produce and meat, then a bunch of really expensive canned and boxed goods. Maybe some smaller garden centers near you carry them?

Here is my window. It is very tall, has south-east exposure and gets a lot of burning noon sun. I put a window film to protect plants. When windowsill became crowded - I built a second level:
