In this case, yes, they are both Neos, but one has traceable past, the other is unknown. FWIW, I have two NOID Neos, both are lovely plants, and both are quite different to each other, very different leaf textures and habits and sizes - still waiting to see the flowering habit!! But there is enormous variation between plants - as I'm sure you'll have noticed!

Actually it is a bit different than the anology given above...it would be more like the difference between a Cymbidium (or phal, paph, etc.) bearing a cultivar name i.e. Cymbidium Sleeping Dawn versus the same cultivar additionally bearing a clonal name i.e. Cymbidium Sleeping Dawn 'Ice Cap'... both plants are of the same lineage (though there may be different parent plants used in the crosses depending on the hybridizer), but the one bearing the clonal name has some distinguishing characteristic that sets it apart from the original cultivar. The cultivated Neos on the NWO site et al are all Neofinetia falcata, there are simply many different clones of the plant (or you might think of them non-botanically as varieties)...all share a common genetic makeup...like our friends Cym. Sleeping Dawn & Cym. Sleeping Dawn 'Ice Cap', they just don't all look the same
(sort of like we humans...)

Hey guys, wondering if it's to late to get in on the Neo project, it sounds fun, and a good excuse to get another orchid. Plus I can justify the purchase :)

Bigger Neos...

Hey Gwen et al...
Here are a couple of pics from this morning...Ross was over at the GH for a bit of tropical air and I showed him the two original Neos that I got from NWO. These were repotted about a month ago, and are just starting to put out new root growth. I have had both of them about 5/6 years... when I originally purchased them both were single fans of growth.

The first two are Momohime (from either side); this plant has 17 growths of varying size.

The second two are Tamakongo (again, from either side); this plant has 18 growths, with more beginning to poke through.

Enjoy!
Adam

Adam, you are turning into a real enabler yourself  I'm going to order the Tamakongo along with Benisuzume (plus two dendros). Oh, well. Just money, right? I will never remember how much I spent, a year from now. :bowing

Becca, go for it! It is a very well behaved little orchid which should provide lots of years of happiness. (Trying to be an enabler!)

You all should look at the Neos at Orchids Limited as well then...they have some good ones there as well (and more Den. moniliforme for you Ross...) :)
