Well, I just soaked it prior to re-potting.What I read on the AOS care sheet seemed much like Catt conditions. I'll research it again. But, water retentive mix kind of flies in the fact of not rotting, ya know?

It wasn't the roots rotting, but the leaves, and then that spreads to the bulbs. Promenea are known to be very prone to fungal issues.

Funny thing is that when I go back to read on culture (specifically for Prom xanthina since I had hybrids of that), I see everything from growing in baskets to a fine bark mix. Seems that they are rather forgiving of media type. Water retentive mix means stays moist while still draining rapidly between waterings. So not sphag for instance.
I didn't repot mine since it was happy in what the grower had put it in. It just didn't like me...

Nice hauls both of you. My jewel Box orange is blooming now you will love it. It was in my very first on line order and still one of my fav's. Oh ya and this is where I got it from.

Oh! Dolly!!!! I just ordered two of the plants from hausermanns too!!!!! Jewel box and Tulomnia Jairik Flyer 'Rainbow'! Plus a bunch more! Can't wait for Antarctica weather to leave the US so they can be shipped!!! It's my first order with them so I love seeing your plants!
