Anyone buy from The Orchid House?

I'm intrigued by them advertising that they grow up their orchids in semi hydro. I think if I ordered from a Reputable place and my orchids Grew Up in semi hydro, it would work better in my environment...vs trying to transition "buy to die" (as someone else on the Board expressed) orchids from big box stores.

(Eventually I'll get to intros and pics, in regards to my short -less than a year-experiences with orchids. Meantime it seems pretty clear that semi hydro would work Best in my environment. I just need to have good/adjusted orchids to start out with).

So if anyone has any feedback about The Orchid House, I'm all ears. If not from them, then any other recommendations welcome..pref orchids already Established in semi hydro.

K. Thanks guys. Guess I would be taking a guess ordering from there. However, I would hope if he took all to heart that Ray teaches, that his plants would be well established and doing well.

Not for an immediate purchase anyway. Per Philip's suggestion, I'm gunna start with encyclia or a specific den he recommended, in plain bark first.

I think The Orchid House looks like it Could be a good place, if someone does semi hydro and wanted a plant already used to semi hydro. No transition period, at least as far as media goes.

Tom Voytilla operates The Orchid House, and as was stated, began his S/H orchid business after attending one of my lectures in the subject. Does he "live the gospel?", I have no idea, but the LECA he sells is the closest thing to PrimeAgra I've seen.

I think "starting out" in bark, then changing, is a mistake. When they grow, roots "tailor" themselves to the environment they are in, and cannot change. Move them into a different environment, and they experience stress, and must grow new roots that are optimized for that environment. That, by the way, is why it's best to repot just as new roots are emerging from the base of the plant.

Choose the cultural technique that is right for the plant, your growing conditions, and your personal tendencies, and go with it. It'll be less stress on the plant in the long run.
