Have been there myself, almost a year ago exactly. Went for a zygo i wanted, came home with that and some how a brassidium snuck it's way to the counter for purchase also. Crazy how that happens. Was a little more than an hr drive for me and was worth it. As others have stated, Bill was as nice and helpful as could be.

One note though, his wife passed away not too long ago.

I've also visited Porter's, at their last open house. Only an hour and a half drive for me, but well worth it. I will definitely go again.
I just want to note that, while Bill's previous (first?) wife passed away, he has been married now for a number of years to a wonderful woman, and I'm embarrassed to say I cannot recall her name -- I'm terrible with names! But suffice to say she was one of the most friendly and welcoming people I have met anywhere! A true gem! I have emailed Bill with questions, and I also see them at many of the shows, and they are both always friendly and helpful!

My window of opportunity to travel up there has probably closed until fall. We have an urban 'ranch' that needs us during the summer. However, it's all good to know. Thank you!

[Insert "I'm sorry to dredge up an old post, but I am strange in many ways!" post here.]
I would drive the entire 8+ hours (one way!) to Peter Lin's, in a heartbeat, like, "Honey, I'm taking tomorrow off, oh, and I'm taking the AmEx too, see you in a couple of days!"
Yes, I'm that weird. Or, obsessed?

I find it interesting that you dredged this post up from 2017. I heard Porter's had closed. But last spring I went to the Ann Arbor show, spent the night with my old friend and met mountaineer from the OB. But, most interesting is how the flavor of the OB has changed in two years. I miss the sweet cameraderie we had. It's just not the same.
