Order from Hauserman
Hi, all. I got my last order from Hauserman's, since winter is upon us. Estacion has been coaching my image shrinking abilities. So, I hope you can see these. Maybe the board doesn't like my phone? It hasn't caught fire Anyway, what do I do with this Ocd. Sherry Baby? I'm guessing wait until after blooming but then what?

Those are nice plants!
Before you re-pot it, soak the roots for about a half hour to make them more flexible. What you use for potting medium will depend upon your tastes and conditions. When I had mine, I had good success using a fast-draining/drying medium (lava rock) and soaking it until the roots turned green and then watering again when it was completely dry. Good luck with it!

[QUOTE=jkofferdahl;819350]Those are lovely! Is it already cold enough up there to no longer?
The nights are now in the low 40s and frost was predicted in the NW suburbs. We are slightly buffered by the lake. Still, I think if the plants were going across country, it might be pushing it. We are only a short journey.
I can't take compliments, I only opened the box. But, all those roots! Good gracious! I think after it blooms, I'll just slice off the old pot and try the LECA thing. Thank you for the suggestion!

My inabilities with Oncidiums are world-famous so I'm the last person on earth who should dare make suggestions on your beauty!

With Oncidiums, it pretty much depends on what species are in the background. Some of the species like cooler temperatures, some live where it is very hot and dry, etc. Most of the commonly sold ones, like Sharry baby are more often killed by rotting their roots then by being kept too dry. I actually had three large monsters at one time and grew them in large lava rock chunks/clay pots. Mine were all rootless with I first got them and I can remember worrying that I would lose them. A year later, I began to worry about finding homes for the divisions.
I love the long, beautiful spikes and fragrance of this one but my space is so limited that I settled for a Twinkle, a Ornithophora radicans and a Nelly Isler. Still, I love seeing the pictures of these when they are in full bloom and smelling the fragrance at Orchid Shows, etc.

I have Twinkle also. And an Ollie Palmer and an old muke eae...huge! I'm not familiar with the others can you enlighten me? Thanks for the watering tip. The roots looked so fine that I misted them. I will stop that!

Congratulations! Now you are a technology wizard.
It doesn't get super hot where you are, so almost any of the Oncidium intergeneric hybrids should do really well for you.

I would continue to mist the exposed roots until you get them potted, sort of like you do with a mounted orchid.
Here are links so you can read about and see the two orchids. The first blooms for me a few times throughout the year and has flowers that smells like honey tastes. The second, Nelly Isler, is one of my very favorites.
