My memory wasn't failing me. Just a few months ago.

I look at Ebay's rating but I look elsewhere, too. Many Ebay vendors sell all sorts of things. Care in packing a rubber sink stopper is different from care in packing a plant.

It's ultimately up to you but one person's anecdote is not proof of consistent/continuing problems either!

(I have problems with statements like, "someone said so-and-so saw what's-his-name pick his nose then double dipped the salsa". I don't have a problem with the first post on the other thread since it is first person with pic.)

As far as viruses goes (potential @#*% storm subject and opinion), you cannot be sure unless every plant is tested for everything, repeatedly. And there are viruses that do not have tests. That goes for plants you already have including non-orchids. You can't point the virus finger until you eliminate all potential sources.

I read all of that. I did everything right. I think you've presumed otherwise. My sole intent is to warn people that even when you do, though, you can still get bit.
I presume nothing about you...sorry if it came off that I did. I was just trying to point out that I don't think we should be so quick to rush to an attitude of "someone is trying to take me". It could be a mistake, a lazy moment when someone didn't want to take another pic, or any other innocent scenario. Of course, it could also be purposeful deception. ????

No need to get snarky.

If the plant was not listed as in spike, and it was clearly listed as not in bloom, why would you expect otherwise? The presence of the stem, to me, indicates a plant of blooming size, nothing more. The seller may have left the stem on to show the plant's maturity, or may have intended nothing in particular. If I was selling an in-spike plant, I would probably state that in the description as a selling point. Lots of Phal growers leave stems on after blooming.

I've purchased a fair amount of stuff on Ebay, and make use of the 'ask seller a question' feature a lot. Most purchases in fact. Maybe the photo leaves some questions open, but if I got a healthy plant with healthy roots and leaves, and I hadn't asked about the stem, I think I'd be OK with the purchase. Certainly would not label the seller as dishonest. I do walk away from Ebay listings if the seller won't answer a question.

But this seller is clearly deceptive. My hope is that, given my experience and those cited above, others will be very careful with this seller.

First, I apologize for my snarky reply.

As I've said, I did my due diligence. I'm not a newcomer to orchids nor to buying on eBay The photo misrepresents the plant and the seller told me the spike was "active". I don't think it was a mistake on her part.
.

You didn't mention the 'active' Q&A with seller before. Hard to evaluate your post & the seller without that information.
