Miniatures from SBOE
I had two very large packages and one small package. The latter is for a vivarium project that a high school student is going to work on.
Vendor: Santa Barbara Orchid Estate
Address: 1250 Orchid Dr, Santa Barbara, CA 93111
Phone: 805-967-1284
I requested 13, and received 12. I thought I took a picture of everything, but only have 11. I would say about a half are blooming or in spike.
Here is the list of plants and prices:
1. Masdevallia barlaeana 'Harold', HCC/AOS ($17.50)
2. Masdevallia floribunda (tuerckheimii) ($17.50)
3. Masdevallia pyxis ($17.50)
4. Masdevallia Pixie Treasure 'Antique Gold'
5. Ornithocephalus iridifolius X Zygostates alleniana ($25)
6. Pleurothallis brevipes ($17.50)
7. Pleurothallis grobyi ($17.50)
8. Pleurothallis scheidei ($17.50)
9. Pleurothallis tribuloides ($17.50)
10. Polystachya ottoniana ($25)
11. Psygmorchis pusilla ($25)

I do not know how the inspection went, but depending on the outcome, they may not be allowed to sell plants. They need to comply with regulations.

What pesticides effective against scale are California growers allowed to use on ornamental plants intended for retail sale?

I had occasional scale infestations like this, but they are so much easier to be controlled than thrips. IGRs seem to take care of them. I would contact local Extension Office and/or Ag. Department since their regulation seems to be a bit different.
BTW, the inspector did not find scales. I am not sure whether he found anything else or not at this point, though. But apparently, there were scales two years ago.

SLO clearly stated on their website that most of their plants are shipped bare root. And, the shipping is charged based on actual shipping charges and I believe it's always been a separate charge from the plant charge...meaning 2 charges.
As for this thread...call me dense but are you unhappy about all these plants? As far as I'm concerned, the only questionable ones are those in the first group. If you think most of those look bad then I suggest you never order imports.

Throwing you a like; for some reason tapatalk is devoid of this function (so far as I can tell...)
Great comment on imports; many arrive with no viable roots at all.

Same. I'm not understanding this either? Other than the first list, these plants look good to me. I've not ordered from any of these vendors. I have always used the vendor reviews here before I order. If I purchase from an eBay seller they better have stellar feedback.
I've not been burned yet.
