Central Virginia Orchid Trip
My Dad was in town last week and since he is a former chair of the Del. Orchid Society (looong time ago) and had his own orchid distribution business, I have found it interesting to visit orchid nurseries with him.
Last week we took a ride to Chadwick & Son nursery in Powhaten, VA and Floradise Orchids in Gordonsville, VA. Each was a day trip from my home in Yorktown, VA
Both were good trips and both us came away with additions to our respective "harems."
Chadwick & Son makes their name in breeding the "First Lady" series of cattleyas and have a thriving boarding service, primarily focused on Richmond, VA. My Dad took home a mini Phal and I took home a Coelognye mooreana division.
We were more impressed with Floradise Orchids the next day. They service more of the DC area market and we found their selection much more varied. We stayed over an hour, my Dad and Steve consistently talking old times and the state of the current orchid business. I took home a very nice Phal. Sogo Reflex and Dad took home a Paph. division that he prized.
All in all a great trip. If given my choice I would definitely go back to Floradise for a return visit.
