Default Carter and Holmes order

Hi,
After reading on Carter and Holmes website that they guarantee virus free plants I placed an order. The order was a b-day gift from my children and husband. I chose the plants in place of cut flowers or other gifts.

The package was well wrapped. Instructions for unpacking and cultural sheets were included. Two orchids were in bloom and the flowers were in perfect shape! Another phal is in spike . I also got bonus plants.

I will post more pictures later. So far, Dtps. Sogo Manager 'Newberry Sunshine' is my favorite. It is a burst of "sunshine". I am not sure if I should re-pot it after it blooms. Wait until you see the roots! Should I mist them? I keep my plants inside and the heat is still needed here.

I highly recommend Carter and Holmes. Enjoy the pics. More to come later

Congratulations on the new orchids. The yellow phal is beautiful. I've always had good experiences with Carter & Holmes and I have several good orchids from them.

Thank you!

You have such beautiful phals and other orchids.

Would you repot it after it blooms and try to get those long roots into a pot? I have another like it in the order. I can't get the pot to sit upright. It keeps falling over. I know it is a good "problem" to have

I usually do the same thing you're doing. I put the plastic pot inside a clay or ceramic pot until it's finished blooming and then I repot. Just don't water too much if it's in sphagnum. I repot anything that's not in bloom or bud. I don't really worry about the aerial roots. If they fit in the pot that's fine, if they don't then just leave them as aerial roots. Good luck.

Thank you!

They are in their peat mix. It is very "fluffy" and loamy.

Should long aerial roots like that be misted?

Personally I do mist the aerial roots on phals and other orchids, several times a week. But mine are grown outdoors so it's easier for me to do. If you water your phals indoors, in a sink, you can wet the aerial roots while you're watering the plant.

I don't like their media at all. It dries out insanely fast for me so I repot ASAP from them. They have great plants though.

Nice - happily we have a C&H distributor in Canada, so it is possible to easily obtain their plants with a little more $$.

Congrats on your plants, what else did you get?

I can see what you mean. I have to repot one because the pot won't stand. I will see how the media goes with the rest. It falls out during shipping too. The plants look great. I have to take a group shot later. I got two paphs, phals a a few others. The bonus plants are Catts
