I picked this little guy up last weekend at Lowe's in Memphis for $5 (thanks for the tip, Melissa!). The Easter colored pots are all half price. Since they are planted in a little clear pot I was able to tell the roots looked great. It's labeled Sogo Vivien. Ever since seeing the pics Ryan (Pilot) posted I'd been terribly wanting a variegated phal!
Went back today & got 4 other little guys (non-variegated) that had lost their blooms for $2 each.
I'm supposed to be saving my orchid budget for the Memphis Orchid Society show next month, but who can pass up deals like this?

again we have the condescending poo poo on the 'big box stores'. I suspect I have only one big box orchid, and that may be Thongchai gold (from original post) I took a backbulb off a dying plant a few years ago and i hope it will bloom this year. I have many orchids now because i love watching this one.

Leanne,
If I had known the variegated ones had a name, I might have bought one. No biggie though. Glad you got it. I've been pleased with my BG baggies from Lowes.
Last year, another MOS member got an award for a BG baggie. His orchid was so cool. The photo of it is on our website, Home. I think it is the last page.
Oh, that reminds me...time to update the website to talk about our show.

I wish I could find treasures like that at my Lowes. I love variegated and mottled leaves! I would even pay the higher price since my lowes rarely marks things down

Well, I thought I'd be paying $10 for the Sogo Vivien, but it rang up half off at the register since it was considered an Easter item. There was no sign mentioning the discount. Maybe you should check your Lowe's to see if they still have any of these Easter orchids in pastel colored pots and have them do a price check. There were full size orchids in addition to these little ones. The best part being that you can actually see what kind of roots you're getting through the clear plastic pot and that's not usually the case with discounted orchids at Lowe's.
Hope you find something great!

Here's a treasure I found at Lowes. A Brassavola Little Stars "bag baby" in spike! I got it fresh.

I found one of those in a regular pot and not in a bag at mine back in Feb, but I haven't seen anything like that since.
