ORCHIDbabies.com closing :( but selling off their stock :)
I was sad to find out that Orchid Babies is going to be closing up shop in the next 3 months or so. But I decided to check out their greenhouse and remaining stock. Phyllis was super friendly. She informed me that her husband's unfortunate health issues had been the reason for their need to close up shop. As you walk in the office prior to entering the greenhouse there were probably a hundred or more ribbons hanging on the wall, mostly blue and red ribbons. I also noted all of the AOS awards listed on their website. She said that they had sold much of their stock, but in my observation their greenhouse was pretty much full. They are Paph and Phrag breeders, and they had some wonderful Paphs in bloom, which I didn't photograph because I was more interested in their Vandas (whoops, sorry). I am primarily posting this to let everyone know that they still have hundreds of beautiful things for sale. Here are some pics I took. The maroon colored Vanda is Vanda merrillii 'ORCHIDbabies Black Magic' AM/AOS; 2008 Roy T Fukumura Award. The red one is Ascda. Yip Sum Wah 'Flame' FCC/CCM/AOS, which are photos that she emailed me. I took the picture of this specimen Ascocenda not in bloom, which she said they will divide and can ship. So if you are thinking of ordering some new orchids anyway, why not order from these wonderful people before they close completely?

I know, too bad. I wish I had taken pictures of their beautiful Paphs, but their website has some good photos.

I actually got an email from them saying they are giving 50% discounts on orders of $1,000 or more. Unfortunately I couldn't muster enough people to get that large of an order together, but a friend and I are expecting to get some plants in the mail from Phyllis today. I'll let you know how they look.

I got a Phrag pearcei 'Little' x self that is blooming and my friend got two Paph hybrids.
Edit: I should mention they are selling their broodstock plants, so they are selling off a lot of large, mature specimens that have been awarded. It's too bad about their situation, but they are definitely selling some nice plants for good prices!

I plan to look through the PDF Phyllis sent me, and hopefully pick out a couple to give homes too.
