I have tried to contact them by email, but they do not answer. The webpage has not been updated since last year so maybe the company is closed down ?

They were alive and well back in March and April for the Montreal and Ottawa shows, I think it might just be a matter of them being either too busy or not having enough people dealing with the internet side of things, I did send them an email once and it took awhile for them to reply.
As for the site being out of date, it seems to be a theme for lots of canadian nurseries unfortunately

I'd wish I could give a review of their plant, but I only ever bought one and didn't give it as much TLC as I should have, so it's poor leaves are no fault of theirs hehe. They always bring a nice selection of plants to the shows though and, in person at least, are very nice and happy to answer questions.

I had ordered from them once, last Christmas, and had positive experience.
Neofinetia I got from them was a nice and healthy little plant, it is now pushing out a new fan.
Bulbo frostii came damaged, I contacted vendor and because it was the last plant they had - I got money back.
I should probably add that I was silly enough to order plants during freezing temps at Christmas, but it didn't matter for Neofinetia, it was nicely packed.
So, for me - they are reliable, and also have nice selection of Neos (not too many here in Canada)

Angry Rude, would not buy from again

I recently ordered an orchid from them, but never received the item. I had supplied them with my new address details and they shipped it out but forgot to include the suite # I supplied. The package was unable to be delivered without it so the orchid was sent back to them. I contacted them to notify it was being sent back because they forgot to include the unit #.

They were really rude about it. They blamed me for giving them a different address than my billing address (for a florist I would assume a huge amount of customers send things to a different address) and complaining they have a lot of orders weekly so they can't keep track of these things. Um...this is your business and if you can't track all your orders that isn't the buyer's fault. I had to escalate to Paypal for the refund because they refuse to refund the entire purchase (the shipping + product cost).

Emailed Calvin on a Sat. he emailed back pic and sent plant on a Mon. received plant, Monneirara Millenium Magic 'Witchcraft' on Wen. Calvin was in BC at the time so pretty fast, we are in Northern Ontario.Plant was great, just breaking dormancy and ready to be re-potted. We would recommend Calvin to all Canadian growers.

I have been purchasing from Calvin for a few years now. I have ordered plants online, and have purchased many plants at shows. I have never had a bad experience dealing with his company. All of my plants have been healthy and I am very satisfied with Tropical Garden Orchids.

As with any company there may be hiccups along the way. It sounds like quite a few people have had problems with Tropical Orchid Gardens. I have dealt with a number or vendors over the years, and have had problems here and there that left me very disappointed. But some other orders from the same companies I have had great healthy plants. Canada has a limited number of vendors, so I can understand the frustrations... I like instant gratification, and getting a bad plant after waiting got delivery really sucks!
