Hey! That's practically a "biggy", might even qualify as a mini! ROFLOLOL

To get 60% humidity in a room, for instance, here in CO, I'd have to have two humidifiers going full time 24/7! One humidifier gets the humidity up to only 42%. I have to keep my little fragrans locked in a glass vault, where the humidiity is around 80% average.

Not sure if I would notice it's slow down period! I guess it just doesn't get as dry, as fast? Do tell!

What about you, Solana? What is the humidity level in your growing location without the terrarium? And with the terrarium?

They kinda sit around not growing new roots or leaves or blooming . I don't know how important humidity is for them the leaves are fleshy , probably store moisture , mine was in the house with less humidity before the greenhouse . Gin

Got that toressae, huh? No, none of the fragrans were blooming when I saw them. When I had that little makeshift terrarium thingy going, it seemed super moist, but my readings in there were still showing around 40% humidity. Strange. It's cooled off quite a bit in the past week or so and I do notice the overall humidity in my place going up quite a bit. I have placed the micro minis back on hooks in my bedroom window. I was soaking the fragrans, toressae and little tolumnia every morning, now I'm backing off to every other day as they seem to be retaining quite a bit of moisture now. I have had a humidifier going in the room for a few hours a day, but that wasn't helping much before. We'll see what happens.

On a disappointing side note, one of the Phals that I got there a few weeks ago (Brother Sogo Gold I want to say) was in spike when I got her, but stupid me knocked off the top of the spike last week, trying to move her away from the flourescent light. Ugh. The top of the spike was hitting the light and when I went to move it, I didn't even think I touched anything, but a portion about 2 inches long, snapped off. I left the spike there, hoping that by some miracle it might grow, but so far the end looks like it's drying up. Oh well, I'll just have to wait until next time.

I got the toressae and the fragrans. . .LOL

They both came on sticks. . .but I took them off and relocated them on a big piece of cork I've got going in the tank.

So now on that one biggie corker, I've got my Aerangis luteo-alba, Tolumnia Maliwan "Kultana", Neofinetia falcata, Schoenorchis fragrans and the Dend. toressae. It's very pretty. Now, if only SOMETHING will freakin bloom. lolol

PLUS the two new micro-minis came mounted on their sticks with live spagnum, so I transplanted that on the cork too. Hopefully, it will start looking as nice as Ross's live moss mounts do. . .some day. lol

I am so sorry about your spike incident. We've all done it and it so sucks. No real harm done but dang, I know you wanted to see the blooms. And it's ugly to see that broken off bit but resist the temptation and just leave it and see what happens. . .sometimes another branch will emerge. . .if it's really determined to bloom.

OK, this is getting a little scary. I just made room for 3 Harlequin Phals that are being shipped (she said with baited breath) and I thought that would hold me over for a while.

What beauties these all are.

I'm getting the credit card out NOW.

This is the one that self-pollinates. See article here.
Koellensteinia graminea

SRF: What three harlequin Phals did you get? And what did you order today?

It's just killing me that peloric, Phal "Cockelshell" is just SITTING there at Pine Ridge Orchids. . .it's calling my name. And the Dend senile that I want is still hanging at Andy's.

Can she resist. . .and hold off on ordering any more orchids until Spring? Taking bets.
