Question What does one do when ...

A few months ago, I purchased a Phal equistris 'Gino'. I had the choice between peloric and non-peloric. I chose a non-peloric as it is even tagged so but lo and behold, it's first bloom is peloric.
I really wanted a non-peloric one.
Should I contact the vendor and tell him/her of their mistake? Is it wrong to ask for the one I preferred? Should I send this one back? ( I do like it and it's taken so long to finally bloom)
What would you do in my situation?

What would I do? Well if, like you said, it took along time for it to finally bloom....I think I would call the place I bought it from, order another one and make sure you specify to them what you want and tell them the previous one purchased wasn't what it is supposed to be. If they offer to replace it free of charge...cool! Or maybe you could work out a discount on purchasing another one....and then that way...you could add another 'chid to your collection. But that is just what I would do, others may choose to do differently.

D,

This sounds like an honest mistake. I would make contact with them for sure, explain that you had your heart set on the non-peloric and just simply ask ... What can we do about this? and take it from there.

Are you willing to send it back if they ask? Are you willing to keep it and perhaps get the one you wanted at a discount? which in my mind you have it comming to you. I feel they need to make it right, bottom line!

Hi D

It's worth a phone call or email. Just tell them what you've told us and hopefully, they'll do the right thing.
What that "right thing" is depends on what you are willing to accept.

Let us know how it goes.

I'd keep it and order another one. . .but let them know what happened LAST time. See what cha get. I would be hoping for a discount on the new one.

What does peloric and non-peloric mean? I would love to see a picture! Do tell.

Peloric is the condition where the petals of a flower take on the characteristics of the labellum (lip). Once I get my camera back, (it went on vacation without me ) I'll take a photo of it and post a non peloric one also

Hi Dorothy,

I would call them and ask. I'm curious though how they knew which was which? Are they previously bloomed plants?
If both peloric and non came from the same cross I'd think it would be possible for all the plants to carry the trait.
In some cases I also thought that peloric plants could bloom normal sometimes and peloric other times.

Does anyone know? It seems like it would be so confusing!
