I just visited there today, and have been several times before, but each visit I'm blown away. They have a very serious operation going there.
I was repotting a large Paph I bought from them a year ago and was concerned by the way the roots appeared. I am 20 miles from them, so I hopped in the car and drug my naked paph with me.
A gentleman named Joe who appears to be an account rep or a buyer came out and grabbed the plant and went to work. He went through a couple minute long lesson of the basic growing/light/fert/spiking info judging what my knowledge level was at. I'm sure if that was new information to me he would have happily taken even more time.
There are several reps working the phones in the front of the house, a shipping line directly behind the counter, then you turn around and it's like you are in an indoor shopping mall - it's that huge. And, yes, you can walk anywhere.
There are probably 100,000 orchid plants in some stage of growth going at any given time. What I am interested in is looking at the environmental controls they have with boilers producing steam heat, light exposure controls which seem to be separated by entire grow rooms, workers everywhere in the fields, and just an amazing space and operation.
I often wonder who their biggest customers are. They got their start selling cut flowers, which I suspect is still a huge piece of their business. I actually saw one worker pulling plants with flowers yanking out the pots, and pitching the entire plants into a large garbage can. Maybe these move over to a cut flower line?
Very impressive for sure. Ask for Joe if you have to call again.
