Dan and Margie's mini haul :) Male
Talking Dan and Margie's mini haul :)

Anyone in or near Broward county should stop by, especially if you're shopping for Vandas. They have hundreds and hundreds of blooming size Vandas. Dan was super friendly, helpful and down to earth. His prices are extremely resonable too!

I was shopping for a gift orchid for my grandmother, since we (I, my beautiful wife and my beautiful son) are going up to MS to visit them in a few weeks. When I was a kid, she always had this yellow Oncidium in the window, and it seemed to always be blooming. So I figured I would see if Dan and Margie had Onc Sharry Baby 'sweet fragrance' in spike. Score! Not only that, but I also found the top orchid on my wish list, Ascocentrum miniatum! Would you believe I only paid $15 for it? Double score! Here is the miniatum:

I found them this past spring and have gotten some great orchids from them along with some VERY useful information from Dan. Great place and great people to deal with. They normally are at most of the shows each year in the area.
Well worth the trip, but as Dan told me the first time I went call them first to make sure they are there, if you get the answer machine leave them a message they will get back in touch with you as soon as they get the message!

You guys got any ideas for transferring it to a wooden basket?

Soak the plant in luke warm water completly submerging the roots to soften them up, I would suggest at least 30 minutes or longer, check after 30 minutes to see how soft they are, if you still feel some resistance soak for more time. Once they are soft enough to work with gently work the plant out of that plastic pot (I would cut that out) then work the soft roots into the wooden basket, be extremely careful with these roots to not break them, take you time, once you are done tie the plant so that the wind does not bow it around until the roots attach to the basket which could take some time, you can always remove what ever you used to tie this plant down later.

I should have continued...
You could leave that pot on the plant and once the roots are soft enough put that plastic pot inside the wooden backet and work the soft roots around it. I find it easier to work the roots into the basket after taking the basket the plant is currently in off, it is tough to work with those roots in a small confined area and if you leave the current basket on it makes it more difficult. Take you time and see which is best for you before removing the basket that plant is currently in,
