Exo, I'll preface this by saying I know jack all about Promenaeas, but do you think your repotting might have anything to do with the plant's decline in health? Some genera and species don't easily tolerate root disturbance in the wrong season.

Given it's growth pattern, this would be the correct season to repot this species, but besides, it came with the black patches, they have just gotten larger since I've had it.
Andy has gotten back to me, and while he offered to replace or refund my plant, he also told me that it may be cold damage, and he's seen that before with this species. He assures me that, since the new growth looks good and since it's making new roots, that it should be ok, even if the afflicted psudobulbs die. I have decided to trust him, and will see how the plant does.

Thus proving my statement that I know jack all about Promenaeas.

Cool, glad to hear it might bounce back. If it's cold damage you were probably wise to treat with an antifungal. Every plant I've damaged with cold (which is a few) developed rot in the afflicted areas soon after.

Figured I'd update....the plant has since bounced back and appears to be making a flower stalk..so all in all, it was just a case of "Stuff happens"....I'd order from Andy again.

Has anyone been out to see Andy's Orchids? I'm curious how he grows his plants? Are they all in a greenhouse, or are they all or in part outdoors basking in the sun?
I only ask because the last 3 plants I got (all mounted Phalaenopsis species) were yellowed, with large black spots on the leaves. I was curious as to how this could have happened.

I have been to his nursery. He grows a lot of his plants under shade cloth and does have some greenhouses but they are older. He grows very naturally and all his Phals are mounted. I didn't get some Phals I wanted because I didn't want them mounted. I did buy a Phal parishii and it was in full bloom with three spikes and was healthy but the two leaves it had were heavily spotted with black spots. He told me one of his employees watered too late for a week and it was too cold so it spotted the leaves. My plant is now putting out new leaves that are not spotted. I did not see the bigger Phal species so I'm not sure where they grew at.
I also visited Sunset Valley Orchids and he grew totally different. He has new "higher tech" greenhouses and all his plants are inside a greenhouse. It was amazing to see the difference between the two and how they grew their plants.
I hope that helps!

Yes, I got the same story from Andy. All 3 of my mounted Phals are heavily spotted with black spot. I'm hoping the new leaves it grows will be ok. I guess I was confused when he said it was "to cold". Duh! in California? Cold?! LOL

Your plants should grow new leaves that are normal. My plant is. I think the employee watered in the evening for a week when it was too cold at night. So I don't think it is hurting the plant but it is ugly!

An update on Andy's Clowesia russelliana. It bloomed at the end of October and the former "tiny" plant is now 27" tall !!!! I couldn't be more happy with it !!!
