Oak Hill Mounted Special
Here's 4 sides of awesome, with a portion of darn. I couldn't resist the orchid mount special since getting my spring project plant. I got 5 mounts, Aerangis biloba, Haraella retrocalla, Sedirea japonica, Brassavola nodosa, and Phalaenopsis parishii. I can't say how pleased I am with the Brassavola, Haraella and Sedirea. The Aerangis is small, as expected. The Phal parishii thought didn't make it so well. I've contacted Oak Hill about it, so hopefully it'll get cleared up. It looks like the 3 main leaves rotted, or are diseased, so I quickly put it in quarantine.
The others are happily moving to their new homes, but I haven't decided on them just yet.
Regardless of what happens with the Phal parishii, I've gotta say, even at 4 mounts, the price was solid. Enjoy
P.S. If anyone think the parishii might pull through (it's my first), I'd love your comments, and can post additional photos. Oak Hill may not let me keep it, but if so, I'm gonna try and save it.

The parishii seems to have some nice green roots. I'll cut the leaves as close to the crown as possible. There might be a chance that it will grow a new leaf unless the crown itself is rotted. The rest looks very happy. Congrats in your new purchases !!!!

all my oak hill mounts died ..Im not going to buy anymore bec they are too small. and not such a great deal when you look at the price of basically a mounted seedling when you get a full grown/mature blooming size plant for the same cost.

I've now only purchased a few online without getting to see the size before hand, and I've yet to be overly disappointed on any of them. Sorry you had such bad luck

Oh WOW! I buy lots of stuff from Oak Hill and have never had a problem with their products. I will say that I've never bought mounted orchids from them before (only from Andy's) and I was shocked at how tight the sphag was packed on. I'm considering taking my spring project plant (in spike currently though) and doing my own mounting job. The rest of my mounted orchids I bought from them I remounted immediately in my terrarium where they are as happy as can be.
I'm sorry your experience had 1 bad seed in it. I truly hope it will get resolved. I have met them before and they really seem like decent people.
And RJSquirrel, I get what you're saying - given how they mount them I can see why they would die. You have given me even more consideration to remount the one remaining orchid I have in their original mount regardless of the bloom spike or not.

Yeah Pual the project orchid (Gastro) I also got from OH, and I know what you mean about tight sphag. However, with mine, I had one of my early roots growing along the mound of sphag, and eventually it buried into it. Another though seemed to avoid it. I just firgured it's a root and I have no idea why they do what they do.
As to the "bad seed," I'm sure OH will work this out with me, and while it's a bit of a bummer, I'm still pleased enough that any fix will still encourage me to shop again.

Please let me know how they handle this. I would really like to know as I have been a frequent customer and they seem to really care about ensuring they get healthy plants out.
Most of the roots on my Gastro are underneath the sphag but have poked their way out of the bottom. However, since I've had it, three new roots have developed - one is growing up away from the sphag and the others are crawling over it.
From what I can tell thus far, they all look healthy so I'm not that concerned. My only concern is that the sphag is so dense I can't tell if it's still wet inside when the outside has dried out.
I'm hedging my bets that with the temperature being almost 100 degrees here already that it will be just fine with my daily watering.

Just as expected Oak Hill has already responded, and credited me the price of the orchid. I didn't have a choice of replacing, as they are sold out. They said I could try and salvage this little guy, so hopefully it'll perk up.
I was surprised to find a new leaf barely poking out, but with the nice roots, I think it'll pull through.
