Ruben in Orchids
Today I visited Ruben in Orchids for the first time.
I've purchased plants from him before, but online only.
I had to go to RF to buy some of their clay pots, so I decided to try and see if he was open.
Let me just tell you, I've never really seen anything like it. His 3 greenhouses are so full of BEAUTIFULLY grown species that honestly, it's a bit overwhelming. I literally didn't know where to look first. He also has his primary hybrids and I didn't see any of the usual mericloned stuff I usually see.
I'm VERY PICKY and It's funny but I was so like dumbfounded. It doesn't have all that Jazz that RF has 9which is a beautiful place), and the place is packed to the gills, but every plant that I saw (even the ones where the blooms were spent) were beautifully grown.
So, you may ask...what did Maria get? Maria bought a Cattleya dowiana var. aurea (I received an invaluable mini-lecture on its growing habits, its natural habitat and well, all I need to know to grow it) after Mr. Sauleda assured me that they are NOT hard to grow, if I grew them using his method, and an Encyclia profusa. Listening to Mr. Sauleda speak about orchids is amazing.
I recommend anyone that travels to Miami to go to Ruben in Orchids. DEFINITELY. I'm super-DUPER impressed--and believe you me--it takes A LOT to impress me. I think I found my Cattleya species supplier.
