This may seem odd - me supporting a direct competitor - but offering a "single shipping option" may actually work to most folks' advantage.
I used to ship exclusively via the USPS, as it was my least-expensive option. As my business grew, FedEx offered me a discount making them slightly cheaper than the postal service, but I still offered the USPS option. After about a year, I analyzed the revenue provided to each of them, and found that if I shifted it all to FedEx, the discount grew significantly, making it considerably less expensive than the USPS, so that's what I did. Now that First Rays is in its 17th year of operation, and 10th with FedEx (UPS is not as generous and doesn't like plants), that difference is even greater.
I don't know RePotMe's policy, but I only pass on my discounted shipping rate, making absolutely nothing on that or "packing and handling". With my current FedEx discount structure, the cost to ship a package to St. Louis or Miami is one-half the cost of the USPS when shipping to a residence, and one-third of it when shipping to a business address!
Sure, I'll do USPS outside of the continental US and upon special requests for extreme situations, but it is not a standard option for domestic orders.
