Canaima Orchids?
Has anyone bought from this vendor? They've got some really nice Venezuelan cattleya species listed (and outcrosses instead of the ubiquitous selfed plants that are found all over the Web), but they're a bit pricey (in my opinion). Just want to know if what you receive is worth what you pay. Thanks!

I have purchased several plants from Michael and they have been excellent quality and good prices, especially considering how many of his plants are awarded. My only complaint is that the website is not updated and does not reflect what he has. Email him and he will send you a price list of seedling/NBS plants. If you are looking for something particular, than email and ask, especially species..

I have also purchased plants from Canaima...two divisions and they were in excellent health. I agree that I'd like to see the site updated
When I called Michael himself answered the phone and was very accommodating. I also encourage you to call.

Thank you, both, for your responses. I sent him an email earlier this afternoon with a request for what I'm looking for.

Steve, I was IMPRESSED with the plants that were available at the WOC in Miami, 2008. Be prepared for "sticker shock"!

Hi Steve,
I bought 50 divisions of cat.hybrids, some cat.spcies they are healthy plants but few did not had tags.
One NOID hybrid flowered, the image was mailed to Mr.M.Sinn,who did not see fit to answer the mail.
The plants were bought at Red Land show.

Thanks, Stitz and Veekay, for your posts. I'm waiting to hear back from them regarding the plants I inquired about.

Yeah, I have sent him an email and no response, his website is in progress,Currently, I am not sure if he is still in business or not, at least lately it seems that he doesn't want any business, its really a shame.

I would NEVER order anything from them. I just spent 300 for an orchid and 30 for EXPRESS shipping. Afterwards, he told me I have a 21.00 credit for shipping (he did not send express like I asked (MANY TIMES), and the plant looked moderately desiccated when I got it, so I unpotted it to find NO ROOTS. there was 1 about a half inch long with a black, rotted tip. I sent him photos and he said "this plant has roots, I checked it myself!!!" I sent him 3 other photos and he will NOT RESPOND TO ANY OF MY EMAILS. Any good vendor would send a replacement or a refund. I assumed it was an honest mistake (like he expected it to be re-established by now), but then I realized that he just flat out lied because it didn't have roots when he potted it (at least a month ago) ((I could tell because the moss was really fresh but did have a layer of algae)). It was tied to a steak/pot clip which would only be needed if you were potting a rootless orchid. I also don't believe this is even an eldorado because they are vegetatively small plants and one pseudobulb is 10" tall- much bigger than anything recorded for this species in the literature I've read. So, save your money and don't do business with this guy. He's a theif.
