Unhappy Some Japanese Minis from Hausermann's

I'm new to the board and pretty new to 'chids too. I placed an order with Hausermann's Orchids on Monday night and it arrived today! I am extremely happy with the quick shipping and packing. Chicago to SF in 2 days! I bought a neostylis 'lou sneary' and a sedirea japonica. Both were listed in the catalog as coming in a 2.5" pot but the sedirea was also listed as being 6-8" tall-link to Hausermann. Learning from other people on this board, I checked the roots when I unwrapped them. The neostylis looks great! It's pretty much bursting out of its pot!

I'm a little less enthused with the sedirea though. It's definitely not 6-8" tall even with the height of the pot added in. One side of the pot measures 2". Wasn't it supposed to come in a 2.5" pot? When I examined the root, probably about 40% of the roots were rotted. I trimmed off the dead parts, dusted some cinnamon on the ends and settled it back into the pot. I'm don't really want to go through the trouble of sending it back. What do you all think? Have I maybe been cheated a bit? if you had received it, would you ask for a replacement?

**Edit: I forgot to add. Right at the base of the sedirea were two chunks of this wet spongy brown material. It felt like material used for the plugs you start seedlings in (peat?). I think the wetness from it probably helped the root rot...

Hi vespertine and welcome to Orchid Board

I think I would be a bit disapointed if the sedirea was quoted as being larger. As I understand it this is a smallish plant anyway and it looks like some of the roots are still good. I'm not sure if I would do anything about it, but then I probably don't complain enough so I'm not a good person to advise on that

The neo does look really great... I would be thrilled with getting that one

It wouldn't hurt to call them and voice your concerns, politely. Hauserman's is a well trusted and quality seller that many people on this board can vouch for. I've never heard of anyone having problems with contacting them about less-than-expected arrivals.
