Colombian Orchid Imports
I found this guy by accident on Flickr, and I had asked if I could use one of his pictures for the writing contest we had here a few months back. Turned out he was a seller. The name of the company is Colombian Orchid Imports, and I decided to go for it. I ordered a bunch of Masdies in February. I was told that the date of importation was May, and boom, in May I was contacted and told that he was importing the plants I had ordered. The best part was, I didnt pay a dime until they were in the US ready to ship directly to me. I pay via pay pal, two days later, I have my orchids in my hands!
They have a nice selection of Masdies and other orchids, I suggest you look over. The order process is simple, but you are in for a wait. As far as I am concerned, the waiting time is worth it. Some of the Masdies I got I could not find anywhere else.
I reccomend this vendor for
--Quality of product
--Honesty of transaction
--Speediness of delivery (once everything had arrived and was ready to be delivered)
--Knowledge of product.
--Great customer communication

Great to hear. I have considered ordering from him before. But had not been able to as of yet. Thanks for posting.

Think of Gary as a facilitator in that he has a relationship with one of the premier orchid firms in Colombia - Colomborquideas Ltda of Medellin operated for years by the late Jaime and Ligia Posada - now managed by their son Juan Felipe. Gary is now accessing plants from a second firm as well. He handles all the details and work of importation from the foreign firms. He's knowledgeable and helpful - there's a rare species of Gongora that I'd been trying to obtain for nearly 3 years - he personally brought me back a division from Colombia and wintered it in California until weather permitted shipping to me. If you love Draculas and Masdevallias you should also check out Gary's own nursery Hawk Hill Orchids: Masdevallia Hybrids and Dracula Species Catalog

Good to hear of this positive experience. I've been wanting to order from them, but I've hesitated because of the import process, and not knowing too much about it.
Tindomul, did you have to pay for a phytosanitary/import certificate, or did you just pay for the plants and shipping?

Gary handles the necessary documents. These are group orders which he places several times a year. You will be charged the cost of the plants plus 15% for shipping and handling. See his website for catalog and details for ordering plants.
