That is a wicked cool site! I have tried to flask my own seed several times. Each time, I had some successful germination, only to learn a lesson in timing, or sterility techniques or.... Lori, Becca, I am inspired to get a flask...thanks guys. I am preparing to defend my dissertation, but I can ALWAYS make time for orchids A little information can be a dangerous thing in my hands! WEEE!

SPHAGNUM MOSS That stuff hates me. Whenever It see's me it's death to what is placed upon it!
I have even tried the fancy stuff.

This is my third year of successfully "keeping" orchids.
Thanks, Becca I am blessing you a great day!! Lori
If you don't like sphag, why not try water culture? It's a GREAT way to get some new roots started on rootless orchids. Works especially well with Catts. You suspend the plant in a container of water so just the base is in the water, and change the water about once a week. I tried with a Den, and got some awesome new root growth. An OB friend showed me pics of a Catt rescued that way. Roots start very quickly, and within a few months it's ready to be transfered to S/H culture!

I've been tempted by overseas orders too, but the long travel times scare me especially in the winter. The only time I ordered overseas was to buy some Neofinetia from a US grower coming to Europe.

Ebay seller's feedback was charming and gleeful.
I decided to give it a whorl and added a flask for the ride. My first flask.
Oops! They won't ship them together.
Everyday watching for boxs.
Weeks of worry. Icky has been home one week. The flask is still on it's way.

I listened and cleaned Icky up a bit.
Last photo A new root????

Last photo, look what is opening this morning! Also I'm dyslexic, sorry. Thanks, Lori

Hi Lori, we didn't know it was such a big controversial taking place here : ) First congratulate for your receiving your healthy plantlets and we are glad to see Lcky surviving and make it though during winter. It has very rugged survival habitat as expected. But initially we didn’t plan for this type of ordeal from happening. God bless us too. : ) I have personally read all threads and follow-up for your topic and it seems that a lot of people support their regular vendors and detest us. Well, we do not and can’t ascertain possibility that this is just another self-advertising and competitors way to step off other vendors. Let us borrow this chance to iron up all the mist and enquires. For the items that you have bought, though far from apart, We give you all the warranty and satisfaction guarantee results even after you stop purchasing from us. That’s how we earn our reputations and great feedback. We are not those 1 time hit and run ripped off vendor.

Sue OB ambassador had purchase from us too. Though unexpected issue happens, we still do her justice. We are legitimate vendor for orchids species plants/flasks, all are legal once again with proper documentation done. Not smuggle nor steal. We disregard all ambiguous unsustainable statements that had made so far. : ) We are always there to check for your plants well-being. We are orchid collectors and grower for many years. I dare not say that I have a very board and vast collections of species genus, but over years of travelling we know our supplier and stock well. Who can confirm and assure me a COMPLETE full list of availabity of orchid genus from A TO Z IN A SINGLE COUNTRY? Please let me know.
Price range for our plants is justifiable for the period we look after it and depending if it’s a rare find or award winning plant. We do give discount for regulars and also willing to be a supplier for anybody whom would wish to become our distributor overseas. We assure all orchids material bought from us to be in good shape and we give after-sale concern and care. It’s safe and interesting doing business with us. Newer species and hybrids being explored and introduced into your country. Not sure if other vendor does this. But we are in for it.

Lightbulb Red Tape- USDA- import process?

I am thinking about importing a box Icky's mail order brides from Silla (). I don't understand anything on the USDA web sites.

I did figure out the online application. I am now at level 2(sounds like a video game).

USDA eAuthentication - Done
Local Registration Authority- (Verify in person)
I am going tomorrow.

What next? I have to do this. I am all ears.nod:
I know I have lost it. It is a illness and Ive got it. Lori

What a visual!!! I would be in the back yard with all of these little winter igloos filled with squid inks.
I will start a new thread on the other orchid from silla that I have my eye on.
I would be more than happy to invite everyone interested. We all just be fair!!

P.S. I would NEVER STEAL from the earth.

We would love to see the other orchid you have your eye on...but I hope you don't mind if we try and find it a little more locally for you...unless you really are just set on importing it in for your own reasons...just say the word

Wow I didn't know there were variegated cattleyas! That's really cool...but the last time I paid that much for an orchid, it died a very long slow death, but it wasn't a cattleya and I don't have to many problems with cattleyas. Have you tried searching to see if any variegated cattleyas are sold in the U.S.? I did see a dendrobium on their ebay listings I liked, but I also found it at Orchids Limited for around the same price....here is the ebay listing: Dendrobium Eximum Hairy Green Orchid X 2 Fresh Seedling - eBay (item 180422634031 end time Jan-18-10 21:40:20 PST)

Keep us posted on if you get the cattleya! It's really cool!
