I'm going to move this thread into our Vendor Feedback forum...unfortunately this isn't the only problem with this vendor

I had problems with the flask I ordered and they sent me a replacement which I had to compot immediately upon arrival. I think their products are probably lovely but their long distance packaging and very long delivery times is a problem

I never have understood the attraction for purchasing from unknown vendors especially on ebay. That's a lot of money to be sending someone in a country that does not have the security checks this country has. Anytime one sends their money overseas (works in both directions) they run a certain risk that they may never see their money again. In this case, I personally see the purchase as a waste. Cats rarely form new roots from backbulbs, thus the plant will probably languish until (and if) the new bulbs mature and form roots. Just my 2 cents.

Default Icky or the come back kid?

Thanks everyone. Your replies make me feel better.

C. percivalina "squid ink elegance" AKA Icky.[/B] Photo.

Ebay seller's feedback was charming and gleeful.
I decided to give it a whorl and added a flask for the ride. My first flask.
Oops! They won't ship them together.
Everyday watching for boxs.
Weeks of worry. Icky has been home one week. The flask is still on it's way.

I listened and cleaned Icky up a bit.
Last photo A new root????

Last photo, look what is opening this morning! Also I'm dyslexic, sorry. Thanks, Lori

Wow it arrived in spike and has bloomed? I really hate to say this, but if you want your plant to have a chance at making it, you need to cut the spikes off so it can conserve its energy for making new p-bulbs....I'm with Ross, you probably won't get any new roots off the old p-bulbs. I can't believe they sold the orchid with the root system it had. I saw the picture on the ebay listing, if it were me I would have stayed very far away from that listing. But I know how tempting ebay can be! Good luck and keep us updated!

There is more at stake when ordering species Orchids from overseas. I think you are lucky to even get this plant. Do you have an Import permit? Did the seller include a Phytosanity Certificate? Did it come with CITES documentation? I'm not sure what of this is needed for a flask but it's all needed for a species orchid and the Import Permit and the Phyto is needed for a hybrid.

i do not understand why you went for that. far and expensive and probably the vendor can't know the weather in every country.

I buy stuff off ebay and often i have been happy. But i usually buy smaller plants for less than 10 $.

You can google and you find reputable vendors like Santa Barbara selling the same species for less and probably in better shape.

I never ordered a flask but I think that seedling may be more delicate.

I wonder what happens to young plantlets t be in the dark and at non optimal temperatures for a month.

I understand buying something not available here but not buying something available here for less.

you can buy Catt percivaliana [purple color] for $25 at santa barbara

or from olympic orchids for 7 [usually small plants]

It must be the adventurer risk taker in me? With the state of the nation this patriot needs anything she can get to stay sane and in the game. I detest the POTUS. Yes Icky is legal. Thanks for caring.

Icky IS legal I have all permits.

Lighten up! All I asked was advise on frostbite. NOT how much you choose to spend on your orchids. Brazil never gets a fluke freeze? Just living is taking a risk! You men!!!!!

My first few posts after lurking for a couple of years. My plants DON'T die. DON'T SPEND MORE THAN $10 for a plant? The world is out to screw you? It costs as much to care for a great orchid as a common one. Am I on the wrong forum?

Have a great life!! Love, Lori

No Lori...you're on the right forum

I think everybody is just upset that another orchid lover seems to have gotten a raw deal. As I stated earlier, I also had problems. I have never purchased from outside the U.S. before but I figured I'd take a chance. I also took responsibility for my part in ordering when I really didn't feel comfortable doing it

I'm with you...if you're willing to take a chance, go for it. As long as we continue to learn from our experiences, it's all good

Lori, I'm so glad that Icky bloomed for you. I hope that you're able to save her as she's a beauty. Keep us posted on her, please.

This is really a great place as you must know if you've been around for a couple of years.

Just the men sticking up for one of their own (in their own way )
