I treated myself for my birthday to two miltoniopsis from I. N. Komoda Orchids. I just got them in the mail today and I have never been this satisfied with buying plants! Definitely my best experience so far!

I purchased the following:

Milt. Princess Diana 'Princess of Wales', HCC/AOS

Milt. Hajime Ono 'Maui Splash', AM/AOS

The packaging was well thought out and secure. It was obvious that whomever packaged it took their time and gave a generous dose of care. The box was also marked "live plants"

The plants themselves are perfect! I don't even think there is a blemish anywhere on them. The potting material is in excellent condition and the root system looks strong and well established.

I was so excited when I opened the box this afternoon and found a third plant! He threw in a masdevallia!

I strongly recommend this guy!

Here are some pics- I'm including three pictures from his site. My pictures of the masdevallias didn't turn out well.

That convinces me, good customer service deserves to be rewarded with more business.

I agree Ivan is great. All of my masdies are from him. If you have questions he is always willing to talk on on the phone, and is very nice.

Your plants look awesome. I have drooled over the Princess Diana several times.

Just got back from a visit to Maui. I met with Ivan at his shade house in Makawao. Thought you all might like to put a face with the name, so I've included a picture of Ivan and myself outside the shadehouse. Ivan is delightful to visit with, and took time out of his busy day to show me around. I even got to go in the flask room. He had very few Masdies left. He kept his breeding stock, but for the most part he is in to Miltonias, as that is what seems to be easiest to sell anywhere. I have to say the Miltonia house was very nice. Only one plant was in bloom and it was gorgeous. All of his plants looked so clean and nice. I couldn't leave with out buying something, so a cute little Den. abberans followed me home.

Quiltergal, Thanks for the pictures. I sounds like you had a wonderful vacation. I wish you could have put me in your pocket.

I especially like your Milt. Princess Diana 'Princess of Wales'. Love the color, and the name.

Did Ivan Komoto have many Masdevallia left. I was so dissapointed when I went to his web site last month and Masda's were not listed. I had a list I wanted to ask about.

Enjoy your new babies.

Marilyn

Hi Marilyn. The milts aren't mine, but belong to the OP.

I was disappointed that Ivan had very few Masdies, and most were species. With the economy the way it is he said he couldn't justify continuing to carry Masdies as they generally only appeal to hobby growers. Apparently hobby growers aren't buying much these days. He did keep his breeding stock though, and he did tell me if things start turning around then he'll offer Masdies again. I do know that he had one Copper Angel because I saw it in bloom. That's one of my favorites. It has a large flower for the plant size and the color is gorgeous. If you had a list I would recommend emailing him and see if he has any of the plants you wanted. I'm sure he would be willing to hold them for you until it's warm enough to ship.

On the bright side his Miltonia are amazing. The one plant I saw in bloom was a hybrid he named after his mother. It was white with a red waterfall lip. Simply stunning and very fragrant.
