Orchid Seedbank Project - response time?
Hi
Can anyone tell me what the response time is for Orchid Seedbank Project. I emailed last week and still no reply. I guess they are busy, but just wondering how long I should expect it to take to hear back on an order?

I sent an email last week asking about shipping costs for media to europe. I got an answer from them in less than 20 minutes! Aaron must have been checking emails just when I sent mine. Very helpful guy, he told me which media would be best to use for sowing and replating catts.
Were you ordering or just asking a question? I read on their website that concerning seed orders they sometimes take a long time to get back to you.

Hi Camille
I was ordering. I was having a lot of problems with the website that day and couldnt read it properly. When I finally got it to fully open I realised I had to give substitutes and so I resent the order with subs. Maybe this is the delay.
I guess I am just used to confirmation emails etc with companies I deal with to say they got the order and are processing it and will get back to me when it is sent or ready.
Thanks again
Brett

I've always had quick responses from OSP. I have heard from a few other people that they experienced a small delay, but my orders have always come quickly. If there is a delay, there must be a good reason. He's a very busy guy, but dependable - you kind of have to be to build up the OSP the way he has. Great resource, great cause, just no paid staff to maintain the website and process orders. I bet he's just backed up or out of town. Good luck!

I've always had good luck with Aaron the few times I've ordered. Just shoot him a mail and tell him you want to double check that he got your order. A friendly inquiry shouldn't bother anyone and it won't bother him.

I might do that Ben. Thanks everyone. I was jusy after a bit of information without having to bother Aaron. I figured he would be busy enough without me emailing away.

I got an email back within a short time of sending it. All is good and I just have to wait to see what seed is in stock to send I guess.
I wish I could send seed to them from Thailand, but CITES/Phyto issues make sending seed overseas uneconomic.

Why do you have to pay CITES to send seeds to them, when CITES isn't needed for them to send see internationally? On the international ordering instructions page, they make no mention of CITES costs in addition to shipping.

Hi Camille
I was going by information supplied by Troy Meyers to me about sending seed to him.
"It is possible, though the USDA requires that incoming seed have Phytosanitary Certificates. This is something that they've chosen to enforce only fairly recently, and seed found without Phyto Certs would be confiscated and destroyed. Other than that, only CITES II seed would be legal without CITES docs, but orchids listed in CITES I would have to either be already in sterile culture, in flask, or have CITES documents accompany them."

Yes, sending any part of a plant covered under CITES including seed would be illegal. Good thing the CITES list is relatively small. Most orchid seed would be fine.
