People, people, you must learn how to do the orchid shuffle. Ever since I reached the ripe orchid number of 40 chids, I needed to invent a way of gaining more chids without being obvious. I do the "orchid shuffle" and that is to keep moving my orchids in different places so as to confuse everyone. One's getting too much sun or I like it better over here/over there, or one needed splitting into two pots, etc. It is rather crowded around here with a 90 + orchid count. Shhhhh!
The orchid shuffle.....it's magic!

You mean if I get a Sharry Baby no one will be mad when my Hausermann order gets here? Kewl. I'll have to dial those people up right away and add one to the order. Had to slap myself not to anyway.

Question: If my gift orchid is held up in a Fed Ex warehouse for the weekend and gets delivered Monday, chances are it will be dead, no blooms, withered etc.????I don't know yet what kind of orchid it is. This warehouse is in Ft. Worth, Texas. I am thinking 95 plus degrees.

I just told my other half that 3 more orchids would be arriving next week. But I also told him 2 divisions are going to new homes as soon as they're stable. So really that's only 1 new orchid right? He just rolled his eyes and told me I was going to have to hire an assistant to help me water on the weekends.

Kiki, I love your idea about the orchid shuffle! I will definitely have to use that one! It would make it even easier to sneak them in if they didn't write LIVE PLANTS or ORCHIDS on the box. And my boyfriend actually gets the idea to count them every once in awhile! Can you believe it? The last time he counted I was at 67. I'm in big trouble if he counts again!

Sarah you need to have them everywhere, all over the house. It confuses them. I have some in the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom. Soon to be some in the eating area in the kitchen too. Of course it helps if there are other plants too. Tell them that it is good for the oxygen level in the house. Yep.

My orchid buying routine is waiting for everyone to go to sleep, take my laptop from under my extra pillow, order what I want and have it shipped to my work address. When I receive it I open the box to air the plants out, inspect them for healthy roots and (hopefully) the absence of bugs. I take them home in unmarked brown paper shopping bags. When I get home, I cross my fingers hoping no one can see me or my bag when I walk in, and rush to my room where I hide the bag behind my bed. If anyone sees me or asks me what's in the bag I tell them I brought some work to do at home.
I have a bigger challenge when I'm buying on eBay. I always have another window minimized with a random website. If anyone is close enough to see my screen, I maximize the "backup" window. It's almost like Mission Impossible.
So far they haven't noticed most of my purchases individually, they just noticed there were more "orchid clusters" in my room. But they did notice the Onc. Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance'. When I bring the Onc. Sweet Sugar, they'll definitely notice it too because it's also in bud. I'll just tell them it was a freebie from one of my regular vendors. And kiki-do, I do the orchid shuffle too. It works like a charm. If they ask me when I got a specific orchid, I just tell them it's one of the first I bought.
