Asiatic Green
Someone had a question about them on the board a while ago, but I can't find the post anymore.
I'm just repeating the question. Has anyone here ordered from them? They show a great variety of ubusual plants on thier web site, but the ordering/payment process they describe is kind of funky.
I'd like to place an order with them, but I would feel more comfortable if I had some reports on experience with them.
Thanks.
Ed

I am also looking for people who have ordered from them, being from the states im worried about the amount of time it will take to get them to oklahoma. I've read you have to pick up the shipment at your local city hall, and must talk to some ag. place? Thanks, Aaron

All of the above information sounds a bit odd to me--coupled with the fact that the site does not give prices on any of their orchids (fern, aroids, begonias, etc. are all priced however), and the fact that nowhere on their site do they list a mailing address...they simply state that they have a small nursery in Singapore. When I've imported plants in the past they are usually checked by the USDA at their point of entry into the country (coming from Asia I believe that this would most likely be either LAX or SEATAC), so having to take them for inspection after you have them in your possession sounds like a bit of BS to me... The costs for documentation seem to be in line with what I have paid in the past, and the shipping seems about right (though higher than it was in the past), but I'm not sure that I'd shell out all the $$ for 1 or 2 plants. One other thing to take into consideration before you order plants from abroad: keep in mind that they will often have little in the way of roots (the USDA requires that all orchids be either growing in sterile material, or have their roots free of organic matter...in the case of most epiphytes, this means that the roots will be removed to comply. If you are not growing in a GH or do not have an area capable of maintaining high humidity, moderate shade and good ventilation, you may be further ahead to save your money and search for your "wish list" plants in the US)
I'll get off my soapbox now
Adam

I may not be correct about the picking up at city hall, it just said something about that so i assumed thats what it ment. Plus I think it recommended talking to someone in a local ag. business or something about the problems with shipping over seas or something. Im going to be reading up on them as they seem to have an amazing selection with many i have already fell in love with. They do have prices for about half of all their selection, which i think means they either dont sell the other ones (unpriced) or dont have a steady supply to sell. We'll see in time. (they just seem to be to good to let my hopes go yet.)

I shy away from importing plants from another country if I was going to order a whole lot of them to resell that would be different but to order a few might end up costing a lot for non viable plants .
I received a few from Redlands that were brought into the US.in a group order .. yep no roots and dry . took too long for them to recover to be worthwhile .. Gin

how long did it take for them to recover. I dont know much about orchids, but they can be grown for longer than a season? Like perenials? Do you know a site that may have a large selection, as i dont like the flower type orchids but the ones that resemble insects, or look wierd. These are shipped sealed in a bag to retain moisture though, would that not be ok?

I received 7 bare root bulbs. All of them are great with good roots. You can see the differense between 2 bulbs. frostii.
This is my first order and I`ll buy more plants from this vendor.
