Default Looking for local nurseries

I'm trying to find some local orchid nurseries where I can pick out my own plants. Mail order is fine and all, but nothing quite beats picking through and finding that special one. To boot, there's no shipping and it can be quite a fun event. But I can't seem to find any nurseries near me. I've tried google to no avail.

If anyone knows of orchid nurseries that are open to the public in the Central Valley of California, please let me know! Merced, Modesto, Stockton... even Sac if I have to. I will travel. Even East of the bay, say Livermore or Dublin. I'm in Palo Alto every once and again too. Any reccommendations out there??

Place I've found locally to buy Orchids include, Lowes, Home Depot, and one nursery... who all get the exact same orchids from Gubler... not much variety to choose from! Occasionally Save Mart will have some near dead orchids from Aloha Orchids. I've managed to buy a few cheap and thus far, only one hasn't made it.

Thanks!

One I would recommend is pretty far away - Santa Barbara - but well worth the trip. Thier web site is below.

Santa Barbara Orchid Estate Home Page

A place you could look is "Orchid Mall". It's a links site with hundreds of links for everything orchids, mainly growers. All the major grower/sellers are there and it is really set up for e-commerce, but you can find some within reach and visit them. Most all have retail and walk-in as well, and even if not, you can sometimes arrange a visit by phone in advance. Don't know if you can search by state, but if you don't mind spending time browsing, I'm sure you'll locate something. Thier web site is below.

The Orchid Mall - Everything in Orchids

Lots of great Ortchid sellers in Cali, but unfortunately for you, most are near the coast south of Frisco.

Good Lock.

Thanks Ed! Yes, a simple google search turns up a TON of orchid places, but all are in So Cal and at the least, 3 hours from me. I thought I had found one closer, only to find out it had gone out of business.

I'll certainly check out the links you gave right now though! Maybe I'll end up driving a bit more than I'd like. Oh well... I am really dying to walk row upon row of orchids

In the meantime... if anyone else has a suggestion I'd love to hear it.
