Default Has anyone used Formosa Orchids aka (assembly0652 on ebay)

Hey everyone,
I searched the board and couldn't find anything on them. Formosa Orchids is out of China and sell under the name assembly0652 on Ebay. I think I know the answer to this question but has anyone purchased from them and do you need a license to do so? Thanks as always.

Yes, alot.

If you're not advanced enough of a grower, it can be difficult to grow some of their plants. They don't always ship everything in top condition. The comments I always give are mediocre comments like: "Good plants.", because they're still growable and can live even though it'll take a few years before they start looking like plants you can be proud to show off. Some of the more sensitive plants may come in dessicated from a long travel.

Honestly, their packing methods are not what we Americans are used to. They're done as cheaply as possible and in a way that will get the plants to you in as reasonable a shape as possible.

They don't mention this, but, it's a risk purchasing from them shipping-wise. They don't carry phytosanitary papers and CITES papers. Or rather, they don't have them. It's technically illegal to ship plants internationally without phyto and CITES. There's alot of paperwork involved with obtaining phytosanitary papers but anyone can get them through the proper channels. The bigger problem are CITES papers. I believe in order to obtain CITES papers you must own or prove you have a lab. So...when they ship it you'll notice on the package there's a sticker that the post office will ask what the item is, and they'll always write it's a "Sample" or a "Gift", but not live plants. Customs doesn't always check, but when they do, expect them to toss the plants. It's rare customs checks anything, but you never know.

While the above mentioned is true...I've also been able to obtain some one of a kind plants not many people have even seen or heard of. And they are doing well and growing.

It's your call.

BTW, they're from Taiwan not China. Sometimes they'll sell plants that are only unique to Taiwan (endemic to Taiwan).

This was very helpful. Thanks King. I was going to purchase a Gastrochilus from them, but I think I will find another vendor.

I've been sooooooooo very, very tempted!
However, I don't like throwing money away and since the plant(s) might be tossed by customs I always move on.
