Thought I'd finally go ahead and give my recommendation for japaneseorchids / Seed Engei.
I've had great experiences with getting Japanese variety orchids from Satomi, mostly from the japaneseorchid store on Ebay.
Satomi is very good about shipping, the only issues I've ever experience with shipping have been from USPS. The plants always look great whenever they come in, I've never seen any damage on any of the plants I've gotten, even when it looks like USPS has beaten up the box a little bit.
Satomi is also great whenever you reach out to her about specific plants.
The most recent item I got was a white variegated Dendrobium
moniliforme, the variety name being 'Sesshu' 雪舟 that I've never seen sold in the US. I assume it was named after
Sesshu Toyo. (Funny fact, he was apparently born in the Bitchū Province, heh.)
Satomi's shop has been a great place to find varieties of orchids I've not seen sold or sold much in the US. I don't know if she's sold many Japanese Cym. goeringii in the past, but she has a few in stock now and I hope she sells more in the future as it's hard to find those varieties unless you know and are in contact with a grower in Japan.
The only thing I will say is that I haven't bought anything from the
Seed Engei website, which doesn't seem to be updated as much as the Ebay store. It's partially a shame, because it looks like things like:
- Rohdea japonica / Nippon lily
- Amistkigma keikisei
- Ponerorchis graminifolia
- A few different Sedirea japonica / Nagoran varieties
Were in the store there at one point or anything. There are quite a few beautiful fuukiran pots, and a few Cymbidium pots there, but I'd definitely reach out to Satomi about buying anything from the website. She'll definitely know more about what she has in stock or not.
Either way, I can definitely say I'd recommend either bidding on some plants whenever there's auctions or getting a "buy it now" plant from
japaneseorchid's on Ebay.
