I just received an order from Ecuagenera. They have been pretty inconsistent of late with the size of their cattleya. The main reason I placed this order was a Cattleya Granulosa, which was listed as "blooming size". The plant showed up and the largest growth was less than 6" tall, no sheaths on previous growth. The newest growth had also already rooted, so no hope of new roots anytime soon.

I remember when their "blooming size" plants were actual divisions of mature plants, well timed to produce new roots upon arrival. Their prices have steadily climbed over the last year, which are now at parity with US growers that actually ship you rooted plants.

At this point I don't advise buying cattleya from them.

Observing my orders through the years, I think plant size is related to where it is in the growing season. They may have sold out all the larger plants and now they're onto the next season's plants.

Out of curiosity, does your old login still work on the new website? After they updated, mine doesn't. It's not the biggest deal to me but I had some lists that I wish I could retrieve.

I also noticed that shows that were previously listed as pick up sites are no longer even listed. Overall, I'm not crazy about the new website.

If you are looking for Pleurothallidinae, Ecuagenera is currently the best place to find them...often the only place to find some of them.

Ecuagenera offers many orchids that are rarely found anywhere else. I went there to find my Dracula and then, when notified of another orchid I wanted, to buy that but, each time, I found some other orchids or air plants that were on my wish list. I admit, I do not care how close the orchids and air plants I ordered from them are to blooming size as I am happy I found them anywhere.

This rings true based on my experience. That being said, they shouldn't be selling non blooming size plants as blooming size. This granulosa is 2-3 years to bloom. They have not even responded to my email.

Just something to keep in mind....
It is possible that they might be able to get that orchid to bloom in a year's time. I believe that they have two growing areas, one in the cooler mountains and the other in the lowlands. Both are probably ideal for the orchids that are grown in each place.

Depending on our care and conditions, orchids will grow at different rates. Over the years, I have gotten orchids with drastic size differences between the new psuedobulb and the previous one. I have also raised many young orchids to maturity and have never gotten that size difference. That tells me that my growing conditions (and likely, skill level) are not as ideal as wherever that orchid has previously grown. Not easy to accept for my ego but there it is.
