Default Ecuagenera Review and tips with dealing with them

Hello everyone, as I posted earlier I picked up a couple of plants from Ecuagenera at the Pacific Orchid Exposition. I was a bit nervous about ordering from them due to other people's experiences with them. Two of my three plants, Anthurium crystallinum, and Trisetella didyma arrived healthy, however, the last plant Masdevallia exquisita was not imported which was disappointing as this was the plant I was looking forward to the most. When I asked if I could have a refund or pick out a substitution (of equal value) I was told I would have to do everything online which is a little bit weird but I suppose the money is stored in a bank or something back in Ecuador. I emailed nearly the entire Ecuagenera management team about getting a refund and received a quick response. About a week later I received an email from both Ecuagenera and PayPal stating that my refund was underway. Overall, my interactions with Ecuagenera have been mostly pleasant, and I would definitely buy from them again.

Final Rating : 4.3 out of 5 stars.

Tips : Pick up your plants during a show or order during spring/autumn, this will increase your chances of receiving a healthy plant. Email all of Ecuagenera high management when asking about replacements/refunds, you are more likely to receive a response. Be respectful and understanding during your interactions, I made a point to state that I was satisfied with the other two plants and that I wasn't mad at them even if I kinda was.

Ps does anyone know where I can find Masdevallia exquisita for sale??

Check with Andy's Orchids - it is not on the website, but a Google search for it comes up with "insuficient quantity, call..." In general, the website only lists 15-20% of the species that he has, the ones in smaller quantity aren't listed. So call or email. Very often you'll get success... Andy seems to know where every plant of his 3/4 million are located in the stuffed shadehouses and greenhouses, totally amazing.

Also, since you are in the SF area, try calling Hanging Gardens (Dan Newman, in Pacifica). (Don't think he has a website, small operation, but he grows lots of Masdevallias)

I too think I was in luck with my last shipment with them. Knowing that it was most likely in Florida cargo first before my place, I can safely assume it weathered Florida's mild winter well enough to damage them in anyway. I will definitely check up the weather before I purchase next time. (please have another sale already)
