Question about a vendor?
Default Question about a vendor?

I hope I'm not in the wrong forum because this isn't a review of a vendor and it's not specifically about orchids but no other forum seems more appropriate to me, so here goes:

I've been seeing lots of gnats so I want a sundew. "My Green Obsession" has the variety I want at a price I think is more than fair. I can't get the shipping quote without filling out the full info form and there are few enough reviews on the net that I think they could be easily manipulated so I don't want to give all my info. Has anyone dealt with them and did it work out well?

They look legit to me, but no personal experience.

I recently discovered petunias are carnivorous and are great at killing fungus gnats.

Which sundew? I don't grow them now but Drosera binata is a large grower (for a sundew) without a dormant period.

Drosera filiformis 'Florida Red' which is listed as not requiring a dormant period.

In casee anyone's curious there's a base shipping rate of $13.95, I haven't found what order size will change the shipping cost yet.

Filiformis is a nice big one, too. If you can find seed the non-dormancy Droseras are very easy to grow, and shipping costs for seed are lower than for plants.

It's a bit late to start from seeds unless grown under lights, but ES is right as it is much cheaper (and arguably enjoyable).

If you're not set on that filiformis, I can check what I have left and send you a bunch of seeds for the price of a tracked letter.

It requires a dormancy, it just doesn't require a cold dormancy like more northerly forms of filifolia. It needs a period of short days (less than 10 hours) for long term well being. If you plan on keeping a sundew indoors where it will be exposed to extraneous light from you living your normal life, get a Cape sundew, Drosera capensis.

There's extraneous light from lamps on the sidewalk but flowers come close to the right times of year so maybe it's dim enough? I wish they'd put the whole state under sea turtle rules, there are so many lights everywhere they're a dangerous nuisance, with streetlamps being the worst.

The intensity of light received from streetlamps is far less that received from being on a windowsill in a room lit to typical household levels.

That sounds interesting, Mr. Fakename -
if they ever went to seed and escaped somehow would I be the next person to introduce an invasive ecological disaster to Florida? I actually prefer anything that's a Florida native or at least common enough that we see them feral everywhere. The fact that it's a Drosera associated with Florida really is a very important factor in why I want that one more than others. It may be silly but I'm old enough to not care if my desires are silly hehe. I really appreciate it, and if I ever get seeds from mine I'd be happy to trade one day but right now I have to get as close to my vision as is at all possible and not let myself look left or right from it. I hope that makes sense but thank you anyway

Subrosa, if it is dim enough with that lamp I do have only 9:54 H:MM of sun at the solstice with several days of less than 10 hours so maybe that will suffice for dormancy needs?
