By the way, I grow all my Phals mounted. I recommend mounting your Phals if you've killed one too many for you to afford.

I found this method the easiest for me to successfully grow Phals. Even ones I've purchased from Norman's Orchids.

(I've some I bought from him for about 2-3 months already. They're still growing too.)

I got a baby kheiki of Phal x leucorrhoda from Oak Hill Gardens that came with the larger plant. I have both mounted on the same plaque.

Oh could someone please do a mounting tutorial
Yes I have to agree that norman's plants are wound up so tightly in that horrible moss- I think you could use moss but not so tightly, I can imagine how easily it would be to create rot or even asphyxiate the root system...
I would like to mount, I've seen several people with mounted plants but not sure what materials I need and where to get them

Here's some info:

There are a number of threads with mounting info, just click at the top of the page on SEARCH, type in mounting and watch what comes up!

I can add my experience here with Orchids.com. I must say first, though, that I have only purchased from them IN PERSON. Perhaps that is the biggest difference.

I have been happy with every plant I have purchased from them, BUT you have to realize they are potted very tightly, usually in moss, which is typical for large commercial greenhouses. If you just leave them that way, they will rot and die.

My advice would be to repot any plant you buy into an appropriate medium for your conditions as soon as the orchid growth cycle will allow.

So I made an order with Peter from BigLeaf and an Order from orchids.com - two plants from each.
So far Peter's plants are doing well, one of Norman's seems to be doing okay as well...
One has deteriorated severely, and I am emailing the company about this condition and I want a refund.
You would think after one bad experience, I'd learn, but apparently not. I'll update everyone with what happens. link to the plant here
