Default New haul from German vendor Roelke Orchideen

I've bought plants from this vendor before, but only from their stand at a local show I go to every year (and no telling if it will take place this October. Probably not). This was my first time ordering online. They don't have the biggest selection, but the plants are large and healthy. They also have a lot of young plants and small affordable flasks. I usually buy my bark from them too, the premium range is very high quality and I use only that for my plants.

I made an error in my order and they were extremely fast to react, and very nice to deal with. For shipping there is a choice between DHL and UPS. DHL seems a better choice for a large order (fixed price) and UPS is based on the weight of your order so can be cheaper if you intend to buy just 1-2 plants. I went with UPS, and I was surprised by how quick it was. I ordered late sunday night, and the package arrived this morning!

And now, my haul!

*Sedirea japonica 4N (seedling)
*Phrag QF Maria (I can't wait for it to bloom!)
*Phal Manniphil
*Phal Artisto Craft (according to the Optiflor, the mass producer of this plant that Roelke Orchideen got it from, it's Phal pallens x Rheingold)

The packing job of the 2 blooming plants was superb, there's hardly any damage to the flowers.

The Phal Artisto Craft is a monster of a plant, with 7 spikes and 3 newly forming basal keikis!

Phal Manniphil is one I've wanted for a while, and this is a version made with the dark version of the Phal mannii parent.

VERY well played by you

and nicely done (the store) with the packing, those plants do not appear to have been recently shipped at all

The spikes/flowers were wrapped in very large amounts of cotton wool, then slid into a cardboard tube, and the tubes are taped to the sides of the box to prevent them from moving around. It's probably one of the best packaging methods I've ever seen.

Beautiful!

My Phrag. QF Maria was eaten by rats. Before that it grew easily in semi/hydro and flowered a lot, even with my alkaline mineral-laden city water.

Nice haul Camille. I love japonica but it has not liked me in 3 tries. I guess a 4th attempt wouldn't hurt anything but the plant, my pocketbook and my psyche.

I have never come across that Phrag. for some reason so I looked it up. That's on my "get" list now! I should be able to grow that I think. I love the red ones.

You have problems with packrats AND rats??!? It's a wonder you can grow anything at all over there! Sorry for the loss of the Phrag, it does seem like a really nice one.

I'll admit that this is my 3rd one... I got the first early on in my orchid career and it died of rot, and the second one died from mealy bugs when I badly neglected my collection during my PhD. Neither was in my care long enough to bloom. So I wonder what I was thinking to have ordered a seedling, or all things!

I meant packrats. European rats made it to Phoenix about 15 years ago, and are in the grass-lawn areas just a mile from me. But in my desert neighborhood they can't make it. Cats don't last long here outside due to coyotes.

Ecuagenera sells Phrag. QF Maria, as well as other red-flowered Phrag hybrids. I got mine from Ecuagenera at the 2018 Pacific Orchid Exposition.
