Edelweiss Perennials

As you might guess from the title, this nursery is not one that specializes in orchids, but rather in European perennials for cooler areas. But they do carry a nice selection of Dactylorhiza, which are not easy to get here in the US. The service and packing were very good, and the plants arrived in excellent condition. I should be posting bloom pics shortly in the appropriate forum.

These look really cool! Something I could maybe try to grow in my area, says to -20 which happens but rarely and the snow insulates the worst of it 😆

There ARE orchids that will grow in Minnesota! Like your state flower Cypripedium reginae... actually, there are quite a few other terrestrials that require a cold winter.

I have only one complaint about them, the Dactylorhiza purpurella (spotted leaf) I bought last year have been identified as purpurella with mostly fuchsii ancestry at best. The problem isn't so much them as Dactylorhiza loving to hybridize, it seems several of the sources providing to pacific northwest nurseries are sending out hybrids as species.

Edit: farley101, you can grow a large percentage of Dacs! Watch out for Southern European species like D. foliosa, and you're good. My "fuchsii" and "majalis" from Keeping it Green literally froze in a block of ice this winter, and loved it.

Thanks for the input Herrania and Roberta! I would love to try some cold hardy terrestrials but I have no room for them at this point. I have huge plans to move to a place in the country with lots of garden space for me to plant whatever I want, we'll see how that pans out. 😅
