For those that bought catasetum from the June '20 release: are the plants blooming size or large seedlings?

FYI: The 2nd batch of new catasetum listings will be out this Monday.

I ordered last week, so I'll be able to tell you probably Wednesday... usually, based on Catasetinae that I have bought from SVO in the past, they are single-pseudobulb (or maybe 2, with the initial one being small, the main one pretty mature). In general, I would expect them to be ready to bloom next year or the year after (though there may be a few that are precocious)

Mine were large seedlings it seemed, 1 smaller old pseudobulb and this year's new growth. As Roberta says, seems like a year or so from blooming yet.

Often they're growing out of their pots... when I get those "root machines", I drop them into a slightly larger pot with no medium, just to keep them from falling over. Once they go dormant, repot into something that will hold them for a couple of years. But don't even think of disturbing them now.

I've bought 21 plants over the past year from SVO, none of them are virused, none of them have any kind of fungal infection or anything. Most of them appear to be near blooming or blooming size. The Catasetum can be large seedling. The species I bought in the recent have one small pseudobulb besides the active one. The ones from the last batch several months ago had one large pseudobulb besides the active one. My Catasetum expansum is sending out a spike right now, so I'm guessing the other ones are potentially a year away.

I got 12 catasetinae from SVO last year in 3" pots and 2 bloomed that first year after the leaves dropped. I expect all to bloom this year. There is potential for year 1 blooms, especially if it is a fall/winter bloomer.

Got my SVO shipment of Catasetinae. 5 lovely plants. I guess you'd call them large seedlings - in the 2nd year of growth (one old pseudobulb, and the current robust new growth). But one of them has a spike already starting. (Precocious!) And early enough in the season that others could as well. Next year blooming highly likely for all.

Question: About 2 months ago, I ordered several plants from a SoFL grower for the first time. One plant really looked bad, so I isolated it for a month. It continued to decline. I tested it with Agdia Immuno Strips (twice just to be sure), and it tested positive for both viruses!!! I emailed pics of the plant and the two test strips, but the grower is ignoring my emails. Am I just wasting my time? (Not sure if it is customary for them to refund $ or not.) Thoughts?? Many thanks!

A quality vendor should give you a refund or replacement (tested clean) plant. SVO (the topic of this thread) certainly would... and likely wouldn't have the problem in the first place. (They grow their own plants, mostly from seed, their own crosses and run an outstanding operation, clean and also responsive). IF you have received a virused plant from a vendor who won't communicate, file a complaint with your credit card company (and any intermediary, such as eBay). Too many good vendors out there to put up with garbage from the others.
