poor vanda needs some help

all my vandals have to live in vases to keep the roots healthy. I soak them overnight twice a week. they seem fine and one of my Vada's is on its second bloom in three months. but this guy had issues. his roots may have dried up too much before I put him in this huge vase.
but most of his roots and he had a lot with dead and had the strings showing so I cut them off and took him out of the vase since Thursday. the vase was like a sauna it was so humid. the muss does not look green but it was thriving and saturated. so one way or the other it was too humid in there. so I am wondering if the moss in his pot is a problem and I should remove it? he is soaking right now with some kelp stuff from rays. most of my Vadas have moss on the roots so it is had to tell their state but these were really dead.

I would leave them alone. Many are certainly alive, and I don't know about the rest. I have Vandas with roots like this that grow just fine.

the roots left are fine I cut off the string ones as they were rotten. I just don't know if I should put it back in the vase. maybe the rotten roots kept it too damp in there or the moss in the basket.

I have them rot like this if I keep them too wet or too dry for too long.

ya it was too wet for sure. not sure why though. none of the others have had that issue.

Never cut the roots of Vandas....you might think it is dead roots but it is not. Vandas need all the roots that they can have. Your water culture is fine but you need to give Vandas brighter light than what you are providing. In winter when I put them indoors, I provide an electric humidifier with a fan and an extra light ….In the summers where Manhattan is very humid, I place them outdoors but in a shady part of the building.

they sit about a foot under leds. I only cut the ones that were mostly strings. the roots rotted off.

If you are going to use vase culture, I would suggest you take out all the media in the basket to avoid any fungal/ bacterial issues. It is also a good idea to carefully remove the basket as well.

there is no media but there is live moss growing that came with the plant. that keeps really wet. thats what I am thinking try to get all that moss off the roots.
