root rot on vase culture vanda

Hi,
I have 3 young vandas in something like vase culture.
they are bare rooted and i soak them each night for some 8 hours in fertilized rain waster (~400ppm).
i used to soak them only for half an hour each day, but they don't have a lot of roots, and i was advised to soak over night.
they are all doing doing quite good, growing leaves and getting bigger, but the one with the longest roots (V. Pachara), had it's root touching the bottom of the vase (which stayed wet longer?), and it developed some rot on the end (and even middle) of some roots.
since then i've cut the affected portions, and moved him to a higher vase, but still some places on the roots are developing some type of rot.

when dry, it doesn't look that bad, but when it's wet it looks rotted, and it seems to spread.

please let tell me if i'm doing something wrong care wise, and what should i do with the rot? is that normal?

I got a couple of Vandas in vases. I soak mine, with just water, aprox every other night (depending on temperature/how dry they get), and with fertilizer about once a week. I use a weak solution (aprox 100-150 PPM).

They seems to love it, one is spiking at the moment with some really nice ripe buds

So let me make sure I understand:
so, they're sitting in water all night almost every day, right?

do you have roots that are touching the bottom of the vase?
Did you some roots enveloping rot that spreads upwards?

Yes, I let them soak all night, but not each night (one night soak, next night dry etc). But of course, I have less sun and lower temperatures than you.
I have a several roots touching the bottom of the vase and I don't have problems with rot. But I do make sure that the roots are dry before I water again.

I'm not sure the temperatures and sun are the biggest factor in my case, they're located in my kitchen windowsill, and being summer, the air conditioning is on when we're at home 4pm till 10pm or weekdays.
but regardless of the air conditioner drying the air, it seem that in the morning the roots look dry within an hour after dumping the water.
So considering that it's OK to sit all night in water, I guess in my case it's needed every day, or even twice a day... I was just worried about the duration, and if that's the cause of the rot..

I have a vanda and a neofinetia falcata right now. The vanda I purchased as a vase plant. I started to steadily go down hill with rot and dying roots. I took it out of the vase and put it in a slat basket. It is now outside and I only soak it every couple of weeks. Just throw some water on it every day and I give it mild fertilizer once a week. That is outdoors in strong sun. I think you are soaking this vanda way to long! It's roots are drowning. I would do a half hour soak maximum and mist as needed. It should be in a southern window with a sheer drapery . If you could put it outside it would be better. They like the warmth and sun. I am trying to figure out how to overwinter mine. My falcata is outside too and is producing a bunch of flowers for me considering it is it's first bloom. Hope this helps! The roots aren't going to be green all day. Hopefully they will be white with a green growing tip unless they have just been watered.

I think the roots look OK. I grow them in vases too. Vanda roots seldom look completely perfect.

You said air conditioning... what is the temperature in your growing area?
