Default Schoenorchis fragrans with no roots

Hello there,

At the end of 2017, i've got a Schoenorchis fragrans (so beautiful) but it arrived in a very bad state, all its roots were dried out except 2 tiny ones. Because I'm good at it, I managed to make the last two roots rot, yeah. Now, it no longer has any roots.

How do I save my Schoenorchis fragrans?? It's already difficult to find info on how to grow it but how to rescue it is harder

Few pictures
When it arrived
<= This is one of my cats

Actually

Thanks for your help!

I never grew this. I would treat it with kelp rooting hormone. Then I would put it into an enclosed area with high relative humidity, like a terrarium or large jar.

In the top menu there is a Search button. You can use it to see what other members have written.

Thank you estación seca !

Large jar : check !
Kelp rooting hormone : Don't know what is "kelp" (translator said seaweed ?), is it important or any rooting hormone will be ok ?

I've already done a little research but not found anything interesting for my case :/

Edit : After more searching i find out something called Kelpmax, sadly not available in Europe Still looking for something similar.

Hello and welcome to the board! I do grow Schoenorchis fragrans, I’ve had my plant for about four years. I am sorry to see your plant has lost its roots.

I agree with Estacion Seca as far as his recommendations however do not keep the plant wet. The humidity itself will be beneficial to the plant, they do not like to remain wet at all.

If you have the plant still on it’s mount, just moisten the mount, not the plant and try to keep from wetting the leaves. Let the mount dry slightly between wettings.

Schoenorchis fragrans likes quiet a bit of light though you should not expose this little one to direct sun at this point. I would also allow a bit of fresh air into the container occasionally. I believe the plant can recover and grow new roots, it may be a slow process, be patient.

Thank you Pattywack !

I put it in a larger jar and let it open, I hope it will be enough for fresh air. I'd be careful not to get it too wet.

Fingers crossed !

As to the kelp, you are right that kelp extract is seaweed (extrait d'algues). Kelpmax is difficult to find here, and other kelp products are not as good due to not being extracted/processed the same way. The brand in Europe is called Kelpak, maybe you will have better luck than I to find it available for consumers? Seems to be sold only in bulk to growers/companies.

Thank you Camille !

I didn't find Kelpak either :/ However, I've ordered Clone Xroots, a rooting hormone. I've seen it recommanded on a french board. If it doesn't work for my Sch. fragans, I've plenty others plants to use it

If that is a concentrated rooting hormone preparation, I wouldn't treat more than once every 2-4 weeks.
