Happy Holidays Everyone,

I am a new member to this wonderful group.

I have been growing orchids inside my home in Southeastern Pennsylvania for over 25 years. About 10 years ago I purchased a bare rooted Ascofinetina Cherry Blossom from a local orchid nursery to go along with my Ascocendas.

I am very faithful in watering these bare rooted plants daily and Cherry Blossom would flower for me annually each spring. My home humidity does drop to 40% in the winter but this plant has endured winters up until this year.

About 2 months ago I noticed that the oldest lower leaves began to become yellow and fall off the plant. Thinking that humidity was the issue, I added long fiber sphagnum moss to the basket and move the orchid upstairs to my much warmer and more humid bathroom.

I practically showered with this plant 1-2 times daily but the leaf drop continued. Just the other day the final 2 leaves fell off of the plant. There are several green roots remaining.

My question is....should I count this plant as a loss and add it to the weekly collection or is there a possibility that new growth could appear on or near the old stem? I have some dendrobiums that gain new growth from seemingly lifeless stems but am not sure about this type of orchid.

All my very best,

Kevin
