This was a rootless piece of vanda I picked up about 6 years ago at the Painted Church in Kealakekua, Hawaii. It took almost 3 years to finally develop roots and another 3 to put out these first blooms. Several times it developed spikes that blasted soon after appearing. This first successful bloom only had 2 flowers, and it has another spike developing. Flowers are very fragrant and long lasting. I think it was worth the wait! Orchids certainly teach us patience.

Here is another shy blooming vanda. Not too striking but has 11 flowers this time (after a 2 year absence).
