sorry to take so long to answer this. I was overseas and unable to answer from my Ipad. My plant gets sun, through 50% solar weave all day and is about 2 feet tall. It all so seems to like a good drink regularly. I saw them growing in Singapore outside not under trees but with trees around. They were also growing in the Cloud Dome, out in the open, in the gardens by the sea. the plants in Singapore were smaller but in full flower. As long as your plant is happy were it is that is all that is important.

Renanopsis Lion's Splendor
Default Fast Forward to October 2019

Well, my Renanopsis Lion's Splendor has had another successful season on the back patio. Just now entering into full bloom after forming spikes later in the season than usual. AND it's now over six feet tall including the pot, probably closer to 7 feet this time next year.

Sadly, this might be the last season for me and my tall orchid. Whereas I can keep it outdoors during the warmer months here, April - early Nov, for the cold rainy season it needs indoors, a place it won't fit this time next year

Stunning colour! Your patience has been rewarded....big time. Hopefully you will find a solution to fitting the size indoors and this will be an annual event for you.
Have you thought about raising the ceiling?

Wow, just amazing! What a beautiful specimen. I can sympathize with your dilemma, though, as I have a couple of plants (non-orchids) that spend the summers out on the front porch, but they're very close to outgrowing the space I have for them in my house when they need to come in. I hope you will be able to find a suitable new home for yours when the time comes.

Renanopsis Lion's Splendor
Default Two years later, 2021, October

Hi folks.

It's been 2 years since I last updated this. Since then my Renanopsis Lion's Splendor has grown to, I think, about 10 feet tall. It's had ups and downs the last 2 years, last year, perhaps coinciding with our house arrest that lasted over a year, it really didn't do well. This year, it is getting a bit better, but experiencing a lot of leaf burn that it has never had a problem with before. thought I'd share some pictures from this week with you all.....

Huntington Beach, California? Clearly it has done just fine outside. This last summer was somewhat cooler than the past several year, perhaps that caused it to sulk. But being next to the wall (which radiates heat that it absorbs during the day) very likely helps it get through the winter. With a southern California coastal climate, one get get away with A LOT!
