Ascda Fuji White
Last year, this was a rescue plant from Lowes that was near death and after a year, I am getting it to bloom. I placed 2 pictures of it in my gallery if you would like to see the bloom. I tried looking up the name on the RHS website with no matches. Anyone might know the parents? I don't have Wildcatt...figured someone here might.
Thanks
Wally

That is correct...they keep a database on orchids. Here is the website if you are interested.
http://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/registe...chidsearch.asp
Wildcatt is a database that contains the Sander's List of Orchid Hybrids and Awards Quarterly for orchids giving names and parents of the orchids. The RHS is the European equalivent.

I find it odd that the RHS does not have your plant name registered. The cross has been named, therefore should it not be registered with the body that oversees and maintains the orchid registrations?
Unfortunately I do not have Wildcatt.

Yes, I thought it was strange too. You just don't see too many ascocendas with a white background...I would love to find the parents to it.

Anyone can name an orchid ... the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) legitimizes the name. To register a plant, you have to know the parents and get the permission of the person that made the cross. The vandae, because of the huge market for cut flowers, oftentimes are mericloned and sold under a clonal name (clonal name is important for American Orchid Society awards but is not part of RHS registered name). I bought a lovely hot pink Mokara Calypso that I learned later is really a mericloned Mokara Walter Oumae 'Calypso'.

Check out the RHS at this address. RHS is the authority for registered hybrids and shares its info with Wildcatt, Orchidwiz, AOS E-Awards etc. If you really want to find the name of Ascda. Fuji White's parents, see if the place from whom you purchased the plant can offer advice as to grower, propagator, etc. It's a long-shot but it can work. http://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/registration_orchids.asp

Wally ... check the nursery supply people at Lowe's to find out where they get their orchids. That's one step further to finding parentage for your pretty white ascocenda. Also, are the flowers fragrant. Your plant looks much like Vascostylis Nong Kham or Viboon Velvet, both of which have been available in Lowe's stores in New England.
